Thoughts on this 316d (2017) with 270000km?
hey guys.
i bought a used 316d with 270000km on the odometer. (about 170000mi) cost me 10000 euros. the car was first registered in April 2017, which means this car did around 60000km(40000mi) every year. i chose this car over the others because I was almost certain these were all highway miles(trip data attached). plus it had full service history from an official dealer every 15000km. IMO, driving 100000km in the city would be worse than cruising at 130km/h on the highway for hrs. same goes for the electrical parts and the rubbers holding up the parts here and there. Well, now that I bought the car, I am gonna take it to the official service center for a thorough check up. what are some things i should look into? i was thinking: timing chain, rubbers, all fluids changed, all filters changed. any other thoughts?

Previous owner must have really like to drive! Will agree that those had to be highway miles, which is a lot nicer to it.
I'd say you checked the boxes of things you should look at. If you have all the service records, maybe that's already been done for some of that stuff already. |

im a fan of original OEM parts (vs after-market brands). do you think its okay to stick to the BMW stock items for fluids and filters?

I typically don't buy the OEM filters, since BMW doesn't actually make them. If you buy Mann, they are a lot cheaper, and one of the providers BMW uses to put their logo on. Same deal with things like spark plugs. It's a Bosch plug and the price becomes 2x more than Bosch to get the B M W stamped on one side.
As for fluids, I tend to use OEM. When I did my oil change, I could only find 0W30 LL01 oil for my car from BMW. Price was on par with the other synthetic brands were charging, so no issues. Past life I had a 2003 Acura CL with a 6-speed manual. Buddy of mine bragged up Redline oil as what made his Camaro's tranny shift smooth. I dumped out my perfectly good Honda oil, put in Redline, and it was so notchy and hard to shift. Went back to OEM Honda, and it went back to "shifting like butter". So just be aware some OEM fluids do have additives and modifiers that are there for a reason. No clue if the above is applicable to the BMW brand, but words of warning. |
