At least 300k. I've got 415k on my TDI mk4 golf and she's still going strong. Stage 4 Malone tune and hybrid turbo also. I maintain my machines very well.

My installation video. Not going into too many technical details. They had a lot of trouble getting the drive shaft off the rear because they didn't have the right tools. But besides that all went pretty smooth.

Well there are differences in how they behave. Only the mechanical lock up the wheels so they rotate at same speed - this is especially good for drifting.

I like the videos the way they are. Feel free to fast forward or not watch them at all.

These guys make clutch-based for the OEM like BMW M and Benz AMG and tons of motorsport companies. This isn't some weak and early dying viscous clutch LSD you'd find like in a lot of Japanese performance cars. I've had OEM LSDs in other Japanese and domestic cars and the MP LSD behaves like none of them. It's fairly aggressive and you most certainly know it's there and doing it's job and it's absolutely great on the street. To buy an LSD based solely on the fact that you won't have to rebuild it is silly. There's so much more to consider. At the end of the day, you can nearly buy two MP LSD for what you'll end up spending on a custom built LSD. As for the "additive". The MP LSD comes prefilled and you don't have to change it, but every 30K miles of so and the cost is around $50 for the additive. Hardly something to worry about.

Sounds like you're most interested in service life over performance. A 1.5 way locking diff (30% lock on acceleration, 10% on deceleration), like the MP LSD, is arguably the best and most preferred performance LSD setup out there for street and especially track driving. When a wheel goes airborne, the wheel the LSD still works. A helical doesn't. Plus the traction control systems on the car are designed to work with the preset lock %. If you run more lock, some have had issues with traction control being wonky under hard driving, thus forcing them to run in DSC Off which puts some drivers out of their comfort zone (I'd run nothing but DSC Off on the track though).
A helical LSD is good for FWD performance cars and drag racing. That Mfactory will be pricey once you consider the $1,000 LSD, sourcing a open diff pumpkin to cut on, buying the $700 ring gear for the LSD, and then rebuilding the diff with all new hardware. $3,500 minimum, most likely $4,000 once you consider install. I know you're not interested at all, but for the money, the MP LSD is steal considering the type of LSD, the way it's setup, that it's already built and tested, and it's built using very high quality parts. The MP LSD originally sold for ~$3,000 when it first came out in 2014. Now it can be had for $1,900-2,000. And then you can sell your open diff for $250-300.

M LSD $2500 installed by dealer, works great with car. Looove the twisties
Am not into drifting, though do prefer to maximize mechanical grip during real-world use..

While I'm not into drifting either, I'm still astounded by the extra traction and how easy it is to hold the slide now. I'm also still learning the higher limits and behavior of the LSD. It's a different car. I wouldn't want the LSD any more aggressive for a car that spends most of its life of the street. The way it set up, it's already pretty aggressive.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but it's gonna be 2900 for a wavetrac then install labor. I found this out about the quaife " The Wavetrac will do everything the Quaife will, but when you lift a wheel the Wavetrac will still provide drive, but the Quaife won't. The Quaife will act like an open differential on wheel lift situations"
