Bootmod3. I changed my downpipe, chargepipe & intake. Tied it all up with a tune. Difference is night and day. So much more increase in power. Its mind blowing actually how much of a difference it makes.

I need more power! Lol
Am currently running Bootmod3 Stage 1. Looking for purely sound improvements. Went through a tunnel in Sport+ earlier and was let down by the stock noise level/tone.

Same here, coming from a DYNO tuned straight piped G37S Coupe, the 340 sounds stock lol. Im telling you man start chopping up the exhaust and getting rid of those resonators.

Or better yet, explore the forums for better options. Im new to the BMW world.

I'd say straight pipe it and send it! lol

I did a catless down pipe and deleted the secondary resonator. It sounds great and was super cheap! The dp install was like $200 and the resonator delete was $75.

I have the complete AWE system(performance mid and exhaust) and really enjoy it. Yes it doesn't have the valve control, it is loud on the cold start for about 30 seconds but after that it calms down a lot. When driving it's not obnoxious at all no drone in the cabin. It only really starts to scream once you enter the 4K+ RPM range. Especially in comfort mode, once in Sport or Sport plus then that's when you get the pops and bangs. I've heard and driven an MPPSK 340 and it does sound great I believe AWE and MPPSK have a very similar sound but the AWE is a little louder.

Had this on my 2016 340i and now again on my 2019 440i, wouldn't swap it for anything else.
got me curious here. I own a 2017 440i and would be great if you could share some pics and maybe a video with the sound?

not to detract from the thread but does anyone, off hand, know if a M235i MPE will fit on a 340i xDrive?

Get a tune and turn off that nasty cold start lol. I also have the AWE catback paired with a 5" catted DP and it is very loud on the outside. Inside, the car does a good job of keeping that noise out. I think the AWE exhaust is very aggressive and is loud no matter what lol.

It all depends how comfortable you are with loud vs quiet. And to be honest, the catless downpipe is where the big difference takes place.

To give you my experience, I had an Armytrix exhaust with stock downpipe at first. If you are familiar with Armytrix, it's valvetronic that turns basically into a straight pipe once it's opened. After I installed the the Armytrix full cat back, it was louder and sounded good with the valves open but really not that loud to be honest. Barely any inside noise. And when valves are closed, sounds stock.

Then I put a vrsf catless downpipe once I did bootmod3 and my god, that's when things got very very loud with the valves open (louder in cabin but I'd say bareeee minimum drone, almost none) but for whatever reason still basically sounds stock when the valves are closed which is awesome.

So for the most part I have valves open and people freak out from the burbles haha very loud but early morning leaving the house, late nights coming home or being around cops, I just close the valves and it sounds stock.

I can get you one today. 340i with Catless DP, Tune, and one resonator delete. Startup is loud (cold start), but quiets down after warm up. I don't have the additional cracks and pops with the tune, just natural.

I'll get some videos today hopefully.

I have a catless DP and dinan axleback with a tune if you would like that sound clip. I was actually trying to remove one of the resonators and see the difference but the shop was busy but I can post that sound clip once it's done

Hi Guys, i am new to Bimmerpost, I have looked at information here befor but I just created my account, I am planning on ordering a dinan free flow exhaust for my 2016 340xi, and I see that my stock exhaust has some surface rust, I am thinking about coating the dinan exhaust with either a high temp clear coat or a high temp ceramic clear coats, any suggestions or any info on how well the dinan muffler holds up with the elements?

I went with a custom exhaust, VRSF catless dp, no resonators with a smaller magnaflow muffler and I find it the perfect amount of noise.

Heres an example of a cold start:

Would love to hear how it sounds while driving or driving by. Also, what size pipe did you go from the downpipe?

I went with the MPPSK as I was looking for more power with a bmw warranty since my 2018 was and still is under warranty. I think the sound is great. Quiet in comfort mode. It comes alive in sport. I also was not going to do any other mods. I have had the MPPSK for 8 months now and have no regrets. Good luck with your decision.

I'll try to get a clip soon, I went with 4 inch catless downpipe

Honestly you can't go wrong with just a catless down-pipe with the factory exhaust. It's got this unique scream. I had the MPE also and it sounded great with the catless down-pipe. Man I do miss the sound of the B58.

Did you leave the pipe stock from the downpipe up to the magnaflow muffler (other than the resonator delete)? Or did you increase that size as well?

My biggest reservation here is that I picked it up with an extended warranty through CarMax. Tune is easy enough to flash to stock and lock dme, but downpipe would me a pain to swap back and forth if something went wrong.
