This appears to be a ridiculously common problem!

My car has is almost a year old, but has only done 500 miles. Sure, it's been sat at BMW for 9+months and washed goodness knows how many times, but even so, in that 500 miles, the rear offside wheel has a couple of corrosion spots coming already around the centre cap. Seems nuts!

Looks like this is becoming a rather expensive problem for BMW that could have been prevented. A small radius around the cap location and better tyre fitting techniques is probably all that's needed.

I have 330 d m sport with 28500 miles

I have corrosion on all four wheels.

I have just reported it to my local dealer in the UK

Car is in lease and due to go back in 6 weeks

I assume they will give me 4 new rims

Your car must be unique as I've never seen/heard of a 330d M sport saloom

Judging by all the replies on this thread, it really does seem to be a common problem.

I had a 2012 E92 M Sport with a set of M Double Spoke 313s. Got the car from dealer at 4 months old. When I took it in for its initial service, they had changed all 4 wheels, without question due to corrosion around the centre. Changed the car on the 1st Sept this year for an F32 and when the sales chap did his walk-round for valuation, I mentioned that the current (replaced wheels) were in shit state (same issue), he said 'yep dont worry about that, we know about it...'. How much are BMW losing due to poor quality wheels?? Seems its been going on for a good few years.

I got the impression they generally have a degree of discretion to deal with warranty claims anyway, but if it's a 403m with the now "classic" corrosion, to save going through the whole approval process, they just get on with it. He didn't actually use those words but that's what it sounded like.

So soon these will be replaced...

(60,700 miles and 2yrs & 7 months old. Quite badly kerbed, but never repaired)
Just in case anyone else is in the same boat, today I picked up my car with 4 x brand spanking new 403Ms. No quibbles at all, not even sure my dealer checked with anyone, just ordered them and swapped them.

To re-iterate car is about 2yrs and 8months old, done nearly 62,000 miles and they were kerbed very badly (and not like the little scuff-ettes you see on some threads, I'm talking gouged for 6" plus).

Just sayin

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what the time limit is for the corrosion warranty?

My 420d m sport coupe has the 19" double spoke alloys and 3 are quite badly corroded around the centre cap.

The car was registered in April 2014 so just over 4 years old and full BMW main dealer serviced.

Any help please on if I've got a claim and best action?

Cheers

So it seems the best option is collect the new car in September, don't treat the wheels with wax or anything, particularly around the centre cap area, then in 2yrs 11months go to the stealer and get a full new set of alloys then look after them religiously
I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping the car unless it turns out to be a lemon

The best option is not to get diamond cut alloys!
They won't last 3 years so just get them replaced each time they start to corrode.
Even if they don't corrode, if you have to repair them, they will corrode after repair!

It's been the same on the wife's Kia as on my BMW (403Ms).
Kia - 6 years old, 4 sets of alloys. BMW nearly 3 and I'll be getting a 3rd set on them at warranty check time.

It does not matter the brand. I clean my wheels pretty much every week. I've coated then in C5. Makes no difference. Diamond cut alloys are simply not fit for purpose in this country.

With the BM, I'm going to try to angle for a set of 624M to replace this set as I'm fed up with this.

If at all possible, I'll not get a car with diamond cut again.

Absolutely!

The most inappropriate fashion trend in wheel design you could think off. I thought the manufacturers learned the lesson years ago. There is no durability, never has been.

Had 4 of mine replaced during 18 months, no issues at all...………….. However, when the warranty replacements corrode, as they will, you may be met with the comment that as they were provided free of charge, they no longer have any warranty - After many hours of gently arguing, I got no further, other than an offer of 80% off, sadly that was off the full retail price, with fitting and twiddly bits, main dealer + VAT = Not really a gesture in my eyes.

That's not quite accurate. Wheels (parts) replaced under the 3 year warranty will only be covered by the remainder of the original warranty. When the original warranty at runs out, there is then no warranty. i.e wheel replaced under warranty in month 12 will have 24 months warranty, a wheel replaced in month 35 will have 1 month warranty.
I've had 3.5 sets of wheels replaced in the first 3 years, so now all but 1 is out of warranty. The "odd" one has it's own 12 months warranty because I paid a 20% contribution to the replacement as it was curbed as well as corroded.

Is a case of going to a dealer or contacting BMW direct, my car is 5 years old so I don't hold out much hope of getting them replaced, but I'd like to make enquiries.

Mine is an Oct 2013 and all 4 have corrosion, who did you speak to about the goodwill claim, direct with BMW or through a dealer?

The dealer sorted it, they had to do some sort of a report of the car for BMW GERMANY & also confirm that it was at the dealer

My local dealer wants me to leave the car for 2 days while they video it etc and send to bmw. Then hopefully replace the wheels. What was the process for you?

If I remember rightly they had it overnight, but be aware they tried to charge me £100 for the swap over as the goodwill wouldn't cover the fitting charge, as they didn't discuss this with me first I kicked up a fuss & offered to go halves which they agreed on.
