The statement of for every inch in wheel size up it gets more uncomfortable. That is simply not true. A lot of it comes down to the tires. I also have a lighter 19 than the 18s were making the car handle better.
Thanks Wdeerfield, you have definitely thrown a spanner in the works! I was hoping to go 18"s to stay balanced between comfort and aesthetics and not get the wheels running! If am right you have got an F30 ED with 19"s !?

My 2013 F32 420D came with 18 inch square set up with 225/45/18 all round. I came from driving a Mercedes E320 with staggered wheels which felt sold in long bends at any speed.

The BMW felt a bit wobbly in the same corners. I have just put a set of staggered 19 in OEM 442 wheels with Bridgestone potenza RFT. Not the best tire but I can live with them for now. The ride is perfect; not too hard and very confidence inspiring in corners. I still get 62 MPG on my 165 mile commute.

I have kept my 18s for winter.

I have included before and after to maybe help.

I was also after a wheel change on my 320d efficient dynamics.

Settled on an 18" x 8J wheel. Got rid of the run flats and went with a 235/45 R18 Goodyear All Season tyre.

Upgrading to 18 inch rims

This is an old post but has been helpful to understand a few things for a novice like me. I'm thinking of switching my OEM 16 inch ones to 18 inch for a more aesthetic look.

If any of the contributors are around, should I be sticking to runflats as they are factory standard? Some cost saving to be had with normal tires but like the security of RF to be honest.

Also, I understand 245 is the largest width that can be had, is that too much of a change from 205 (standard) and will that affect anything?

Just get a set of take off 400m and 225/45/18 from someone upgrading their Msport, If you like em you can upgrade to 245/40/18 non-runflats next tire change.
