Carly for BMW (F3*) - anybody used it?
I see that Carly for BMW now supports the F3* series with their iOS app ('Droid is on the way).
Has anybody tried using Carly on the F3*? http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...t-is-possible/ |

Yes, I've been using it on my E93 and it works good. It's quick and easy to use.
There are some in-app purchases like battery registration. I will say go ahead it's good. |

I had the full version and used it on my e90, however as of a few months ago it was not available, for android at least, for the F30. Even the e90 version does not have many of the coding options like esys. To do all the coding that most people want you need to go the esys way.

I have been using Carly on my F30 for over a year, but not for coding, as that's still not supported on Android. Carly can read and clear diagnostic codes and a host of other things that E-Sys isn't meant to do. I recommend going to their website and checking on its capabilities there. From what they've told me, their F-chassis coding will probably be limited to the KOMBI module (dashboard items), but it may expand to include HU-ENTRY/CIC/NBT/NBT2 and FEM_BODY in the future.
It's a simple connect (via their BT adapter), read coding data, select features to activate or deactivate (or change values), then push back into the module. Same as E-Sys but with a much more simplified interface. It allows you to save the module coding data as a backup, just like E-Sys. It worked great for coding on E-chassis cars, so I'm hoping it will be the same for F-Chassis, although they've had quite a bit of time to get things working and so far, coding with Android still isn't fully tested yet. I've since used E-Sys for coding my F30 and the wife's F23.

Yes, did this the day it was released last week. They had an update yesterday to fix E-series coding they broke when they released F-series coding. I have both, and it works. I've used Carly on several E-series of mine and my brothers with no ill effects, using both iPhone and wifi adapter and Android with both bluetooth and usb cables.
A couple issues on the F-series: coded my defaults such as 5 blinks vs 3, and some wiper changes. Also coded folding mirrors with comfort access, and closing windows/sunroof with comfort access. Everything supported worked, but with some issues. When I coded, it did all the settings but kind of turned them off. I had to turn on 3 blinks and unlock all doors through iDrive, then the 5 blink setting kicked in and all my doors unlocked again. Weird, but that was the only issue I had so far. I believe there were a lot of settings to turn off the light checks, and some other things. There were only 2 modules for me to code, whereas my E88 has 7, not sure if that's a change for the F series or just limited functionality of Carly right now. Carly works, and it's easy, but it's not nearly as thorough as other coding options. Sometimes it's hard to understand exactly what they mean too, but that's not the end of the world. The parameter stuff is also flaky as the engine temp, coolant temp, and some others were all way off. A couple other things are also odd in the parameter stuff so I wouldn't trust any of that at all. Just my experience since last Thursday for the F-series.

Some coding options seem not working as expected, e.g., the Gear Shit Indicator 1 & 2. My F30 has Indicator 1 active and 2 inactive. I tried coding Indicator 2 active in the hope to display the current gear in the instrument cluster but that ended up eliminating the gear indicator (P, R, D) altogether. Perhaps it only works in the extended instrument cluster? Anyone knows? Btw, the first time I used it I only turn ignition on. Halfway during coding the instrument cluster turned off (due to timer I suppose) and the coding failed - scared me a bit but fortunately nothing bad happened. Now I always code with the engine running. |

I bought their Gen2 WiFi dongle as I don't have one. Not sure if it will work with others. You may want to check with Carly to see if your dongle is supported. |

I'm still waiting for Android Fxx coding - so far, they're 6 months behind and still doing "thorough testing". Meantime, I've used E-Sys and an Fxx-compatible cable to code both of my F-chassis cars. Not for amateurs, though - the interface isn't nearly as friendly as Carly's. So far, Carly has been great for reading/clearing codes on Fxx cars, but not much else.
Can anyone verify what the limitations (if any) are for coding with their IOS version? I heard it was KOMBI module only, and nothing yet for FEM_BODY or HU-xxx (Head Unit).

It can code the KOMBI and FEM modules but not all codes are supported. Their web site has the full list of codes supported.

Thanks for the update. Kind of a moot point now that I've coded everything I need with E-Sys, but I do own the pro version and would like to get full functionality.

Verified that you MUST use their OBD adapter to code F30. The software must do a query of the hardware. I have another brand Wifi adapter that works well with other software and SHOULD work with Carly, but it won't accept it for coding.
The cost of the dongle is cheaper if you could buy direct, but they seem to force you to use Amazon if you're in US, which is $16 more. |

Yes - you must use their Gen. 2 BT adapter with Carly if you want to code anything (IOS or Android), although Android coding still isn't available.
