F30 steering wheel upgrade to sport with paddle shifters

I just purchased a new steering wheel to upgrade to paddle shifters. What else is needed to get the paddles working? I assume some coding? ID rather not take it to the dealer if I don't have to.

I just bought a wheel too with Paddle Shifters and will have to get it working once I get the wheel.

Check this post which I've bookmarked - http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...0&postcount=82

Essentially you'll need a wire from FEM Pin 5 of A173*7B to SZL Pin 3 of A83*2B if the wire harness doesn't have the wire. You can easily check if under ICM Module in E-Sys, doesn't have 3190 > Paddles_verbaut.

The connectors required for the PIN are 61 13 0 005 197 x2.

Let me know the result as well, as this is what I took from the posts.

Actually instead of the M-Sport wheel we usually see, i got the M-Sport wheel from the F20 with the same airbag as the normal Sport wheel.

Prices vary on eBay.

I just ordered the connectors, are these difficult to pin out? I've never done this before.

I will try to document everything, I ordered the connectors, I'm now trying to understand if coding is in fact required for this, can anyone confirm? The way this reads: You can easily check if under ICM Module in E-Sys, doesn't have 3190 > Paddles_verbaut.

It seems like this needs to be check to make sure it's not there? I have no experience coding but I'm paying for a session and I'd like to have this included

Can I ask a potentially dumb question? I have been searching the forum and have yet to find an answer. What steering wheels have heat AND the active blind spot vibrator? I have a no-line car with heat and blind spot but no paddles.

Here's a link to a good deal on a wheel. You'll need an airbag too... Here's links to both at excellent prices.

I bought a sportline wheel to upgrade from my no-line wheel with heat and I noticed it had the vibration generator in it. So I can confirm you can get the sportline wheel with those options.

What gauge wire did you use and where did you purchase it from?

I already have the m sport wheel on my car. Mine didn't come with paddles, can I just purchase the paddles by themselves and the connectors and have it installed?

I just installed my new steering wheel today with paddles. Just to test and be sure I took it for a ride, and as expected the paddles don't work. I now need to figure out this wiring project. I wish there was a DIY for this, as the information is a bit scattered here. I am not an electrician so I really don't know what I'm doing. I'm going to check with my pro shop to see if they'd take it on. More soon...

Sorry for the late reply.

If in E-SYS under the ICM module that there is no listing for 3190 > Paddles_Verbaut, it means that you need to retrofit the wire.

If that listing is there, you just have to change that field to "aktiv" and the paddles should work after that change.

I'll chime in once I get my wheel retrofitted... it's still in the mail.

I just installed mine tonight. I spent like an hour trying to get the airbag off my standard wheel through the slits. OMG. I was going nuts. I saw another video where you pop the steering column cover off and get to the springs behind the steering wheel. This was pretty easy and only took like 5 minutes. I haven't tackled the paddles yet as I don't code and will need help with this portion.

This is false. If you have the M-Sport Steering Wheel, you can indeed buy the paddles, a new connector cable to accommodate the paddles, and a rear steering wheel cover that contains slits for the paddle shifter mounts.

You need:
- #4 (32307848268),
- #5 (32307848335) - Varies on your options btw
- Paddles
