my wife has an IS and I personally think hers is ok looking, but this new one has some wacky design cues... the melting never ending tail lights are dumb, they could of looked really clean had they not done that, the front end looks like a cheap fiber-glass knock-off you would put on the front of a Honda Del Sol.
but that interior... don't hate me for saying this... but I really like it, really like the positioning of buttons, the dual layering of the center console, the tach/speedo pod, the vents, the position of the nav screen. I was never a fan of lexus interiors until the newest ES came out. and this takes it one step further, looks like they are modifying/copying audi's interiors slightly

So many haters...
It's actually not bad, I would choose the new IS over Audi, Merc or caddy on any given day.

it really does look like a acura from the rear quarter view. and the front kinda looks like the face of the Predator..lol I can't say it looks bad it's just not original when it looks too much like another brand..

I feel this has a better interior. The only new BMW I like is the M5. After driving a new camry se and being impressed by it for what it was, I can only imagine how bad ass this car will be in F guise. I really feel bmw missed the mark on the new 3. If this car is priced right then it will do exremely well. It is weird, but different.

My problem with Lexus is not so much their design cues but the way they handle and their ride... They've always been about ride COMFORT over HANDLING... That's not what most of us that drive bimmers are looking for...

Even the IS-F disappointed me with the way the car FELT... Especially the regular sized skimpy steering wheel that made no sense to me... Would Benz, Audi or BMW put WOOD sections in the steering wheel on their AMG, S/RS or M division cars? Let alone what seemed like the same regular steering wheel from their regular models?

Lexus is fantastic if you are taking an extended road trip though, but not what I'm looking for in a daily... Their interior quality is fantastic, always has been, although I really dislike their I-drive mouse controller thingy...

Overall, I like the new IS. It might be a bit overstyled, but at least it's unique. IMO, the F30 is boring. There is nothing really striking about it. It looks OK and appeals to a wider audience because it isn't a design that takes risks. That might be fine for some, but many buyers want something fresh and more aggressive. I think the IS hits on those points. My guess is the average age of F30 buyers has gone up from the previous generation. That's what happens when you make the 5 series more of a luxury car, then simulate that design on the 3 series.

I also think the ATS and C-class are better looking than the F30. The only car the F30 looks better than is the current A4. I'm also willing to bet the IS will drive better than the F30 since the GS already drives better than the F10.

Assuming they price the IS aggressively like they already do for the current generation, this will be a huge winner for Lexus.

Back in August of 1957, I was given a private tour of the Ford plant in Oakland that was about to produce the new Edsel. The car had not then been shown to any dealers or to the press. When I relayed my impressions later that day to an assembly of Ford dealers and told them emphatically that the car would NOT sell, they dismissed me as a precocious 11 year old.

Thanks to Jason, I have just seen the first photos of Toyota's "Edsel".
