LED bulb in Depo F30 projector headlights

Hi,

Has anyone managed to install a LED H7 bulb in the low beams of the Depo F30 headlights?

I searched the forum and there looks to be a lot of Depo headlight users but I couldn't find any info about anyone using LED bulbs in them.

The low beam is a projector and it does not look like it is using an extra mount which looks similar to the HID conversion kits shown in other threads.

The LEDs I am using are https://www.powerbulbs.com/us/produc...ed-headlamp-h7

Thanks!

You should be able to use just aboout any H7 base LED bulb. I hope you didn't buy the ones in the link, they're priced at four times what they're worth.

From what i've read you shouldn't put LEDs in a projector set up

I can't say from experience if that's the case or not. Logically a projector that's configured for a good beam pattern with a halogen H7 should have a good beam pattern with an LED H7 that works well in an H7 reflector, but one can only find out by trying an LED.

I think it varies from different projectors and different style of led bulbs. I have some in mine and I have no complaints.

Don’t want to deal with HID that is none OEM.

Not sure what bulb because they came with the lights when I bought them. They don’t have clips to hold them in but they stay in place because the back cover presses on the back side of the bulb.

From what I have read it comes down to personal preference. I have really never had much luck with HID and auto headlights. So I just stay with led.

I'm wondering to bc I tried it with the beamtechs I had from my reflectors the color looked better but I noticed the light didn't go as far as the halogen. I put one led in the drivers side and left the halogen in the passengers side.

Just ordered the Depo headlights for my 15 F30. Have the stock halogen set up now with Cougar H7 LEDs installed low beam. Going to try and migrate the LEDs to the Depo lights. I'll post an update once all done. Hopefully, it will work. Want to get LEDs into the high beams as well but there is no room in the stock set up.

I've had H7 leds for my depo low beams ever since I got them a year and a half ago. I bought some generic 6000k ones from amazon honestly. They are the ones that have the metallic ribbons coming out of them for dissipating heat. At first I was going to drill a hole and place a grommet in the headlight cap soo that i didnt have to stuff the ribbon in the same area that you insert the bulb in. But after realizing that the ribbon barely got warm, I just stuffed the ribbon with the led bulb and put the cap on. Ive had literally no issues with this setup in the year and a half that I've ran the depos. HIDs would have a higher light output but this led setup is good enough for me. Especially when compared to the stock halogens.

The way the low beam goes into the DEPOs I'm not sure how people are fitting LEDs or HIDs in there. The bulb plugs into a bracket. The bracket powers the bulb but also keeps the bulb in place in the housing. Without the bracket the bulb will fall out easily

Its been awhile since I went into the inside of my depos, but I believe I had to buy an adapter to hold the led in place. I completely understand what your saying about the connector holding the bulb in place.

I am dealing with this issue right now. Bought the Morimoto H7As (The Retrofit Source (TRS) recommended type) and they were wrong (return wire was up not down). TRS didnt return or send me the correct bulbs. So, on my own dime, I bought the Morimoto H7Bs and though the return wire is correct and facing down and it fits more snug with the euro adapter than the H7A there is the issue that the base of the plastic on the bulb side of the HID is too large and it doesnt set even creating an unusable beam pattern. Total waste IMO. After all the time and money spent on these DEPOs I will likely just yank them and have a shop install some factory BMW HID adaptive lights lol

Any idea where you may have gotten the adapter? I'm trying to install LEDs and am having problems finding LEDs that will snap into the Depo housing properly.

Were you able to install this? I just bought the Morimoto 2stroke 2.0 LED and the Depos. Hoping to install them later this week

Could you share whether the Ultinon lights did the trick, or whether you fitted other (LED) lights in the projector housing?

Highly appreciated!!

Just an update on the usr depo headlights, i just got these H7 LEDS they are 360 degree and all light beam comes out from the tip and i noticed compared to the regular leds these have a solid beam with no dark spots on. Once again they are not as bright on these reflectors as id love them to be but they are a solid solution for now.

I did not need a separate canbus these went straight in with no error codes

Also these retainers are needed to make sure any led on these low/high beams stays tight in place

Heres a few pics from tonight. One pic is only low beams on, brigter pic is low beams and fog lights. Its much better with these 360 h7 leds to be honest. Not the best set of headlights visibility wise but they get the job done. At night from a distance or up close you can definitely see the angel eyes and know its a bmw its very close to OEM. The pic cause the brightness reflects on camera lenses im guessing you cant see that well but it does look very good and very bright white angel eyes/low beam. Overall im satisfied the only down side to them is you cant replace high beams once you install headlights you either got to replace them for leds before installing on car or remove headlights to replace high beams so my high beams are still stuck with the ugly h7 halogen bulbs
