stoptech street select
I'm about to change the brake pads on my car (2015 f30 335i Xdrive with blue calipers).
I don't want to go with OEM because I think the hawk 5.0(HB766B.624/HB765B.664) or EBC redstuff(DP32133C/DP32130C) are better and cheaper. also OEM produce A LOT of dust I've never used hawk, ebc or stoptech. stoptech street (308.16560/308.16090) seem not to far behind ebc and hawk but with a better price (my #1 choice so far except if some folks with bad review begin to make me doubt lol) I've not found good reviews about the stoptech street select(305.16100/305.16090). are they shitty pads or good bang for the buck? any comments would be appreciated. BTW no lapping nor track... canadian daily driver! Last edited by el_couzin; 12-21-2020 at 10:10 PM.. |

If you are looking for street pads, the stoptech street is fine. For Stoptech 305 and 308, you could save some money and buy the Centric Posiquiet and Posiquiet PRO pads - they are identical.
If you want an upgrade the Stoptech Sport 309 pads have more braking power but it will dust more. Hawk HPS 5.0 is also a good bet for a street pad. EBC red is somewhere between 308/309 pads. You may also want to look at Akebono brake pads, low dust and not pricey.

thanks for the infos.
at first view, when I look for cendric pads, the seems to be around the same price of the 308 stoptech. maybe I didn't look for the correct part #. Do you think the difference in price between the street and the street select worth it? |

I run $200 front brake pads imported from Japan on my street driven F30... all those options look pretty cost friendly in comparison.

Akebono pads are no better than average. Their selling point is low dust because they are ceramic. Ceramics are notorious for not working until they warm up. So jump in the car to go to work and no brakes! Hawk 5.0 pads are a level or more above any of the pads that you were considering. Great bite and instant warm up.

My first choice was the 5.0 or redstuff... but I paid more than 50% less for the akebono. As long as they are better or equal to the OEM but with much less dust, I'll be happy. |
