How do I get the M steering wheel insert out

I want to wrap the silver insert to match the M Performance CF I am putting in. Do I need to take off the airbag? If so, how difficult is it?

Seems like it would just pop out.

There are two holes into the lower side of the steering wheel housing, you have to stick two tall slotted screwdrivers into them and have to reach the clamps. After releasing, the airbag would be able to remove. So far the short version. Disconnect the battery before starting the work.

I need to do the exact same thing .. and don't want to break any of the clips as the one guy on youtube admitted to ..

It sounds like you can just take a trim tool and get after it .. but I dunno .. I don't want to break any clips.

I may do the door handles later today .. and I need to redo both vents as trying to cut the wrap on the edge of the aluminium/piano black parts didn't turn out very well even after much practice. I'm just going to redo them to cover over the lower black part also. Takes forever. But no broken clips at all costs..

Not to remove the trim piece.
Eh? To my knowledge you have to, no? It's screwed into the back beneath the steering wheel. From videos I've seen you take off the airbag, and then there's 2 screws you remove. The alternative to taking off the airbag as far as I know is to remove the airbag entirely, which is more work.

Popped right out without taking off the airbag. Just start at the top and use a trim tool stopping at each clip.

10 minutes of wrapping later (not terrible for my first try)

Did the same thing on Boxing Day... but didn't want to disconnect the battery. I used an Allen key with a handle to pop the springs. 3 screws on and off and

Can you post a close up picture. I am happy with my results but would do it again if I can find a wrap that better matches the M Performance CF

So you start on the top part and push the trim tool where? On the inside (by the air bag) or from the top? Or around the outer edge?

Thank you ! I recommend getting a 3M dinoc? I think between dinoc and 1080 the dinoc is more matte like. Which will go better with the m performance. I've noticed theres alot of cheap CF wraps out there for sale... but there's a reason why they're cheap.

I got this - from ECS https://www.ecstuning.com/b-autoteck...t/bm-0199~atk/ I think is matches perfectly with my trim. Closer photo - let me know if you want another from in the car.

Edit - photo with other trims from M Performance range. The CF all goes in same direction.

Take a look at this video.
- I followed this method. I used this Allen key to push in through the holes. The loop is tight over the airbag and I admit I was nervous... you need a torx screw driver for the 3 screws (2 inside and one at the back at the bottom (under the ///M logo).

I just took out the metalic insert and it did not require anything else coming out. I pushed from the top towards me with my finger then worked down slowly with a trim tool.

I second that, Dinoc CA-421 is the closed look to the M-performance carbon look parts. Had it myself installed into my bimmer...once time ago

I am using the vivid xpo wrap per a recommendation. It's not too glossy which I didn't want. I think it looks great and the feel / texture is nice. It seems to stick well and be pretty easy to work with, but we'll see how it holds up over next summer/winter. Some say it's better than the 3M some say the 3M is better.

I kept screwing up the angle on the door handles last night .. I wasted a ton of it couldn't finish the other 2. Had to order more... There's nothing worse than finishing an entire piece perfectly only to notice you got the angle the complete wrong direction. I'm getting pretty good at it though. I have to redo my first attempts with my newly developed skills.
