I didn't remove the plastic covers. I took the airbag out only to install the m performance cf trim on the wheel, but it wasn't necessary to do the cover at all.
Thanks a lot. Waiting for the cover, Thank you again!👍🏻🙌🏼

Just did the M sport wheel on my F26 X4... took almost 6 hours but extremely happy with the result.

I purchased this item and was unable to install it since I was unable to cleanly wrap the fabric around the control buttons. I couldn't take off the steering wheel from the steering column...

After several attempts, I have given up. Does anyone know a place a can have someone professional stitch this in the NY Queens area? My original steering wheel leather is falling apart.

Which part of the steering wheel removal process were you unable to perform? If it's the airbag, try this method:

I'm guessing it was the airbag that might've given you problems because it's probably the most difficult part of taking the wheel off and disassembling it.

Np. Doing the cover with the wheel off is 1000% easier than with it still on the steering column. That said, still anticipate it taking 4-5 hours start to finish for a clean install. Great quarantine project!

How much thread did you use per section? Lets say that the section is X long, did you then use X*2 or X*3 the length of the section?

Just installed mine this morning! I chose to remove the wheel and trim. The hardest part for me was getting the bolt off the steering wheel. The only part that came out bad was the piece at the bottom where it doesn't make it under the trim, but at a glance it looks great and it's a huge improvement from the original
