Well, I don't have ambient in door handles on my F32 - just in strips along top of doors, rear quarter panels, around LCI HVAC surround, & above center console.

You can code ambient to be much brighter & also to have it's brightness independent from interior lighting (right now brightness should be tied to interior light dimmer switch)

I have mine set independent + at Max brightness level - the difference is very noticeable

This can be done using the Carly for BMW App, Bimmercode App, or ESys

Of the (3) above the Carly & Bimmercode are the easiest/quickets/most user friendly ways of coding a ton of little niceties for your car.

ESys is more involved, but can do major coding needed for retrofits

my bad, it is the strips along top of doors, not the door handles as i said.

Got an OBD plug on the way and getting bimmercode so will hopefully get this sorted. do you know what the setting is called in bimmercode for setting it as you have as that is what i want

Sorry, I do not. I learned to use NCSExpert/INPA back in my E92 days, once I got the F32 I didn't feel like learning yet another program - so took the EZ route and use Carly or Bimmercode for most things...

If I need retrofit coding that Carly can't do, I use Alex from Alpine to remote code my car

Interior Ambient Lighting

I have this same problem too. The ambient light on my doors is very light. I have black interior. Please let me know if you find a coding solution.

Solution is in my post #4 above need to get bimmercode app and approved wifi module

Unless you have esys software, then you would need someone else to chime in to tell you coding steps needed

The default setting of the ambient lighting is 100% (HEX 64), so if you have your instrument lights at full you have your ambient lighting at full. Only if you have the instrument lights at less than full would there be any benefit in separating the ambient lights from the instrument light controller. That coding is in the cheat sheet.

This has already been discussed many times. The only option is to replace the LED that shines through / down the strip on the doors and rear quarter panels.

I agree with this guy, if your instrument light cluster knob is at 100% it's at 100%, changing values in the app wont make it brighter.

And who runs their instrument lighting at highest setting?

OK, well I set mine at half - so for me (or anyone else that sets their instrument lighting <100%) it is a benefit for ambient brightness to code as above like you stated

For members with sedans only - there is a guy selling aftermarket ambient strips with what he states are much brighter LED's - but instead of white/amber as OEM, they are blue/amber

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1438276

I can't attest for the quality/fitment of these - just putting it out there...

You shouldn't have to change the entire strip, just the LED driver. For that matter you might be able to just change the current limiter resistor in the LED driver to a lower value, but not having tried it I can't attest to it.

I only mentioned the pre made strips because the every day car owner may not be savvy with changing drivers, soldering & such (or even know what a driver is & what to replace it with)

I know on my E92 I went thru and did all custom LED's for most of interior changing amber to blue, had my seat heater level indicators @ yellow/orange/red instead of all green, shift indicator LED's were different colors depending on position, M3 dash gauges retrofit using white LED's & blue LCD, same for HVAC controls, etc.

Yeah these aftermarket led door strips are a perfect fix for this issue. They are plug and play and are a lot brighter than OEM

The werte values are hex, not percentage. 64 hex equals 100%, so 64 should be the maximum value.

So as I mentioned...your only option is to replace the LEDs themselves, or possibly look into splicing in some EL tubing such as:

If you disconnect the cluster lights from the ambient how the can you control the ambient? Would you have to get the e-net out?
