That's really a pretty simplistic way to look at it. Regarding the blind spot monitoring, why *wouldn't* you want your car to help make sure there's nobody there before you change lanes???

And as for the lane departure warning, take this example into account: I live in Dallas and drive to Oklahoma for all the home football games. I usually go alone because I meet my brother there and prefer to have the flexibility to do it on my own schedule instead of accommodating somebody else. This season, we have had several games that started at 7:00 pm. After a 4 hour game and traffic leaving Norman, it's already 11:00-11:30 by the time I'm headed home. With the 3 hour drive home, I'm not back home until about 2:00-2:30 in the morning after a long day... So, I ask the same question as before: why wouldn't I want my car to help make sure I don't fall asleep at the wheel and drift out of my lane???

These options are both highly valuable safety features, not "substitutes for real driving skills"!

Because if you can't stay in your lane by your own devices, you shouldn't be driving.

So where are the people who said you could get any combination if you didn't get a "line" and started with a base model?

Looks to me if you don't get luxury line, you can't get saddle brown.

So base model means your stuck with beige, black or black with dark oyster (priority 1).

Wow, you are so right!!

It makes more sense to get the 335i as long as you are willing to skip the leather. You still get the xenons, anti-theft alarm, lumbar support, moonroof all without ordering the premium package.

I think that you get more bang for the buck with the 335i. the N55 has been around for a couple of years now so I would actually feel better with it.

I cannot wait until the configurator arrives!! It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of next year as I need to wait until then. Ill almost wager that they will have xenons as a stand alone option on the 2013 model.

The bean counters definitely know what they are doing. Im also curious to see how the 2011 535is will be rolling in after taking their huge depreciation hit. I'm impatient though and it is killing me.

This reduces the $3,900 price difference even further. Almost a wash really. 335 yeah!

You can always get the leather as a separate line item on the 335 for $1,450. A lot of car for the money and no 4-cylinder anxiety.

All of them except for Estoril Blue II, which will be exclusive to the M Sport package.

Sport in Mineral grey here.

Here is an overview that I forgot about. Has interior colors, etc. Also shows Sport line in Mineral Grey.

http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=598632

Also, it seems that although most colors are available, only the grays, silvers, black and red will really go with the sport line. Blues are pretty much out of the question, white probably out as well due to the interior limitations in color. That is pretty disappointing.

Then there is the modern package which looks nice, except for those stupid turbine wheels. I did read where you can place the 19" sport style wheels though. The problem with the modern line is that the oyster line is on the seats that you choose. They are almost forcing you to choose a lighter seat color for the modern line.

The base F30 looks blah, so that is what you are left with if you want "more" interior choices. The base body style looks more bland than the late e90 by far IMHO.

They may have messed up this time with these constraints.

It's funny when manufacturers price the models so close that it becomes a wash. Salesmen have to get creative. I was looking at the C230 vs C300 before I ended up in a 335 (don't ask how that escalated....), and I realised that everything was extra on the 230, and all those same items were standard on the 300 for almost the same price - except you got a much beefier engine. So I ask the salesman - "what possible reason could I have to pay 44k for a 230 with premium package, or 44k for a c300 where it's all already standard - but better engine?"

His reply: "well some people don't need a bigger engine!"

What saddens me about these prices is BMW will still price them at 1.4x in Canadian dollars compared to US, even though we've been at par with the USD for several years now.

Is "4 cylinder anxiety" a defined medical condition?

Ha! Yes but symptoms only appear when spending more than $40K on a vehicle
