I received mine climate ambient leds today (white/orange). Fitting them this evening. Looking forward to the extra brightness :-)

EDIT: Here's a picture after installing the new radio trim modules. Looks great! Picture isn't great but you get the idea. The ambient lighting upgrade is now complete! Thank you Benzinfabrik! Last edited by eff32fl; 01-22-2022 at 06:24 PM.. |

If you've removed the radio trim and dash trim before this will be a piece of cake. This swap was very easy and only took about 30 minutes from start to finish including removing the dash trim. Be careful when removing the dash trim with your plastic pry tool especially as you get to the thin part toward the passenger vent as that can break easily. Use a pick tool or a tiny screw driver to help disconnect power connectors when needed (especially disconnecting the hazard/lock button connector from the dash trim, I've noticed it helps to push the whole button out from the back of the dash trim so it pops out the front and then remove the power connector) and have a towel handy that you can put over the radio trim after you loosen the dash trim and have it "dangling" so neither get scratched while you disconnect the 2 power connectors. Be careful when disconnecting connectors if you use a tiny screw driver as the plastic connectors can break easily (I've broken a couple before but just as long as you don't destroy it you will be ok). Disconnecting the radio trim from the dash uses a Torx size 20 (if I recall correctly). As far as swapping out the LED modules from the radio trim, looking at the back of it there's a module on each side of the radio trim on the upper left and upper right contained in a black square plastic piece and you will see the clear plastic light diffuser connected on each end. Whichever side you are working on, work out some slack in the power cable so you can pull the black plastic piece that holds the module out of the radio trim to be easier to work with. The clear diffuser tube is flattened on each end where it connects to the plastic piece and that slides out of the black piece easily to allow easier work. The black plastic piece is made of 2 pieces and the outer piece slides off exposing the OEM LED module. Replace it and follow the reverse order and you're good to go. Be sure the new LED module is installed with the LED side of the board face down just how the OEM LED module was installed. After re-assembling the radio trim, be sure the plastic diffuser is pressed down firmly and isn't loose. I didn't think about taking pictures as I did it, but I found a picture and attached it below and identified the pieces that contain the LED modules. This picture doesn't have the radio and AC modules (which don't need to be removed to do this) but you get the idea. Last edited by eff32fl; 01-23-2022 at 12:40 PM.. |

Thank you for the explanation, plan to install this within next week.
Would you rate to install the new LEDs w/o disassembling the whole frame as possible or not?

You have to at least pull out the black plastic pieces and disconnect the light diffuser. You can leave the radio and AC/climate modules alone.

I ordered the wrong colour climate ambient leds! I bought white and orange. I should have picked the 605 orange colour to match the clocks ect. That was a waste of 25 euro 🙄

I'm fairly sure the orange/white is supposed to match the OEM ambient lighting colors. The 605 is an alternative that has more red in it. At least that's what their site says.

Yeah I wondered that when I read their website. I think that sentence just gets a little lost in translation. The true bmw orange is the orange 605. The other one they refer to as “classic” because it was their own classic offering before they added a 605 led option. I ordered white/orange 605 for all led modules and they were a perfect oem match. I will say the brightness for the 605 upgrades is most noticeable in the footwell about 100% brighter lol. The radio trim was only slight brighter maybe 30% and the door leds are about 40% brighter. On all of them the white is 100% brighter for sure. The footwells I would consider too bright in white at full brightness. Would be cool to add a capacitor to those.

Nice I think the silver trim really helps to reflect the glow with the black interior. 👌🏽

If you have not fitted them and they are sealed maybe ask if you can reorder and return those. |

Mission done!
I'd struggled a bit on removing the pins from the housing until I'd found the son of a biatch stubby nose which has hold it. Added this to my DIY to explain this small detail when realized the problem.

I agreed to return them. I'll pay the postage returning them. And they'll cover the postage sending me the replacements. I also asked them to change the description on their website to avoid further confusion with other customers in the future. I'm returning them tomorrow
