How to push more power without a tune?
Been reading some scary stuff about cars with JB4 removed getting flagged and I have 3 years left on my 440i warranty. Is a downpipe really all I can do? Really want some more power without voiding warranty.

What you are seeking doesn't really exist. Any (non-BMW approved) power mod has the potential to void warranty (for powertrain/related comments), be it software or hardware. This includes a downpipe. I'm not saying installing a DP is automatically going to cause you to have warranty claims denied, since the dealer essentially needs to show that your mod caused/contributed to the problem, but a DP is not without risk. Also, the benefits of the DP aren't as significant when you do not tune.

Could always go for the MPPSK package from BMW. Catback exhaust and tune direct from BMW and covered under warranty. Should add about 30 hp and torque. Should run about $3,000 from what i've read.

Option 1: MPPSK (+34PS, + 50Nm, worth it even just for the exhaust), full warranty retained
Option 2: Downpipe (minimum risk, no traces; + ~20PS, + ~20Nm) Option 3: MPPSK + Downpipe (you do the math) There are no other options (which would give you any meaningful increase of power and/or torque)

You may also be able to go with a Dinan piggyback or a Dinan tune, I don't know how they relate to the BMW warranty though.
Honestly, your best bet for a b58 car is BMW's MPPSK. You may be able to save some cash by installing everything but the tune by yourself. Then again, I read a story about BMW denying a warranty claim on a self installed kit. If you want significantly more power with a warranty, buy an M4. |

In the year 2022 there is not much you can do without voiding your warranty. Just wait for that expiration date.

I went through the same thing when i was in CPO warranty. Think about it this way - if you tune/mod while you are outside of warranty, if something goes wrong, 0% chance of it getting covered. If you tune/mod while you are in warranty and something (powertrain) related goes wrong, you have a chance of it being covered. Also, if you believe that the tunes/mod don't really increase the chance of causing an issue in the first place, then what reason is there to wait? Any "existing" issues with the car shouldnt be a problem, unless the dealer can prove the tune/mod caused them. Also, to be clear, your warranty is not an on/off switch. Anything unrelated to your tune or mods is still 100% covered by warranty. I went in for several CPO warranty claims, from the windshield cowl to OPG leak to park brake cable clip and had 1000s of $ in repairs covered while tuned with numerous hardware mods installed. It all depends on your risk tolerance and desire for more power. |

If it's the motor it's close to 0% with the latest ITSA software. BMW is the one to reimburse the dealers and they will catch it. Have you heard of anyone recently that's had a warranty motor with the tune?

I agree motor is close to 0% if you have flash tuned. Might be higher chance if you just had hardware mods (especially if you reverted back to stock) but OEM software. I've heard of people getting new manual transmissions due to 1-2 syncro while tuned/modded, but not engines.
