You thinking of doing the same? Once I go from stock 50 sidewall to a 40 or 45, I have a feeling the wheel gap might be unbearable..

What size rims and tires are those? Also do you have xDrive?

Not harsher ride because I will be getting rid of runflats. Also better performance from the tires as they will not be folding over on themselves in hard corners. Keeping the sidewalls above 40mm will be just fine for protecting against any pot holes, if I'm going fast enough to bend the rims then it would have happened at 50 as well. After all this is a sport sedan, not an SUV with 65-70mm sidewalls.

IMHO if that's a concern you're driving the wrong BMW. While it has performance characteristics superior to the average family sedan it remains at its heart a family sedan. Nothing will transform it into an M4.

I agree that better tires will give better handling, but low profile isn't necessarily better. NASCAR wheels are 15 inch, F1 are 13 inch. The Audi R8 LMS Ultra has 18s. The real R8, that is, the one that won the Nurburgring. The ones they sell to rich wannabees have 20s. And if you zoom in on this M6 GT3 that also raced Nurburgring you can see the size is 31/71-18. That's a 55 aspect ratio.

I'm running Adaptive M Suspension with the Dinantronics software on my 340i. I lowered it on H&R Super Sport springs and threw on a set of 245/30/20 and 265/30/20 HRE wheels on it. looks amazing.

225 isn't the 310 that the M6 uses, but it's not chopped liver either. I could see going to 235, maybe 245, with the required reduction in aspect ratio to maintain the same diameter. But I probably wouldn't go with both the lowered aspect ratio and larger wheel, as that would likely leave too little sidewall for both comfort and durability.

Wheel=rim, as opposed to tire. I made it a point to get a base '15 model so I'd get 17", which was the base offering then. Way too many threads about blown tires and bent rims from pothole hits, and every one that mentioned it was with larger rims and lower profile tires, convinced me. You never heard about pothole damage being such a big deal when 5,000 pound Detroit metal was all shod with 14" or 15" wheels and 70 series rubber.

On the note of rim damage with bigger sizes, that is generally true on 20inch rims with 30 sidewalls, but not always. I work in a tire shop and see plenty vehicles with large rims and small sidewalls with no bends after 50k miles. Granted it depends on the roads, but going higher in diameter and lower in side wall does not always mean guaranteed damage.

In Virginia understandable. Not in New Jersey or New York, where potholes are so large and stay in place so long that they get named. Some have been known to swallow cars whole.

Hi there, please would someone know if the GT has more ground clearance than the F30? I know is taller, but cannot find information on actual ground clearance difference, if any.
Thank you! Martin

Depends if you are comparing to a F30 with xDrive as that will increase the ride height on a normal F30. Because the GT's have to come with xDrive then it will have more ground clearance than any F30 that is RWD. As for a F30 with AWD, I could not tell you but I'm assuming a quick google search would
