Trunk latch?

I saw this in my trunk today and was wondering, what is it for?

If I am looking at the right thing it is for looping bags. Or at least that is what I was told it was for by someone at the dealership. That is, it holds groceries bags that you may not want to tip over and the contents break, such as your eggs or something like that. I do not know whether it is specifically what that loop is for, but that is what I have used it for and it works. I don't let them hang and swing, but it keeps the bag upright if the bag is big enough. Other than that it just sort of sits there in the trunk looking odd.

If you pull up the floor panel of the trunk/boot it will click into there to keep it held up for you to access the storage compartment underneath.

Sorry yes that too. I should have said that as well. I so rarely use it for that purpose that it became more useful to hold bags up. I suppose this is the official use.

There's two hooks on the sides of the trunk to hold bags.

Yes that is correct, but if you go shopping and have lots of those small plastic bags it is handy sometimes to have more hooks. That was really my only point.

Yeh .. but... it's a floppy plastic bit only held on by one of those rivet/screw deals. It's meant to be pushed on, not pulled on.

And it's SUPER easy to snag putting things into your trunk, which makes them bend down forever to be in your way.

You are correct. I ripped mine off with a suitcase within 6 months. I went to the dealer and bought 2 or 3 of them because I figured this was going to happen frequently. Of course it has not happened again in 2 1/2 years.
