At least you saved some money by only buying 3/4 of a car

Got rid of my expensive waste of a car in August after 1,000 miles 5 months.
Managed with one car ok, just needed one days car hire when we both needed to go into work sometime in September I think. Still a bit of a pain coordinating everything with one car, but doable. A new one coming on Monday, factoring in pcp, insurance and road tax from year two it’s about £300 cheaper a month than the one that went. Spent about 6 months of last year on antibiotics for something knob related, uncomfortable camera inserted as well. So I sympathise. Went private eventually through work and a change in antibiotics and a longer course sorted it in the end for me. Last edited by Goneinsixtyseconds; 11-20-2020 at 03:09 AM.. |

Covid hasn't helped, but I have only done 3,800 miles since July 2019 anyway lol.
I plan on keeping it though, as I think it would be difficult to get another three year old 440i with 95% factory options, a lot of add ons, and only 14k miles for the price of the gfv lol.

According to the wife the bikes and BMW are a waste of money, but not too me.
Not used them (bikes) for years , mega low mileage on all of them but dont think i would ever sell them , possibly add to the collection. 20180205_194044 by Kenny Niven, on Flickr bike1 by Kenny Niven, on Flickr DSCN0430_zpsc35b47zt by Kenny Niven, on Flickr Dont use the 440 much as am enjoying driving the Cayenne but it is a nice to get in it and give it the beans and it never fails to impress and wonder what i would replace it with and what would be the next step up without spending silly money. The only downside is the almost £1k pa RFL bill should i tax the bikes along with the cars , which not only is a piss take but actually is a waste of ££ for a combined annual mileage of 4k. K |

The X3 does about 10 miles a week at the moment :-(
I'm in the office one day a week (130 mile round trip) but I'm hopeful that we'll be back to some sort of normality by mid-spring.

Any excuse to show mine!
M4 has done 7000 miles this year, and the 340 has done 8000, the 330e had 10000 before it was returned. Lotus had only done a few hundred miles since I got it, but that would always have been the case. I don't see them as anymore of a waste of money than before, probably helped by not having any monthly payment on the Exige or 340. I plan to keep the M4 for some time anyway, so have no issue at all with it's payment beyond the fact that I would like to get off and stay off the PCP cycle, so looking to get it cleared and over the next 18 months.

Only managed 800 miles in this this year, although that did include a track day.
However it's appreciating in value anyway, so quite happy to have it tucked up in the garage.

A waste of money? I depends how you look at it.
I've just bought the X4 which would seen madness at this time with what is happening in the world. It's unlikely to be run in until April based on car usage in the last 6 months so it's a drive ornament for the time being. It makes me happy though. Mrs Rukka has a TT which she uses primarily for shopping and work. Her work is less than 1.5 miles away and she drives about 1000 miles a year in total. Does she even need a car? Probably not so is that a waste too? But again, it makes her happy. Like most on here, we earn our money and spend it on what we want - not what we actually 'need' If you can afford it, keep it. You'll only find something else to spend the cash on if you get rid of it anyway . .

Actually the highlight of my week was using it yesterday to go for a Covid test, I couldn’t contain my excitement, the thought of getting out of the house to gag on a swab meant I could barely sleep the night before, and I got the roof down!

I’d prefer to pay for things I’m actually getting use from, than a drive ornament. Cheaper drive ornament arriving next week, means from next month we will be somewhere in between. Still able to spend more on things we’ll use, but not be stuck when we both have to be somewhere at the same time. |

I'm in the US and have successfully put a little over 12k miles on my car since March 14. Well, 2 cars, as I purchased a 2013 328i at that time and traded it in for a 2015 435i on Oct 9. 10k miles on the 328i and a little over 2k miles since Oct, on the 435i.
We have been all over our state, always getting gas at home from the same station, and completely avoided crowds, being indoors, and most importantly covid-19 (knock on wood). In England, are you not allowed to leave your homes at all, for a country drive and a hike? In no way am I a coronavirus denier. And I take the health of my fellow citizens and my own seriously. Driving my car away from the city and heavy population has given me much needed mental breaks, while not endangering my family or others. It was a legitimate question though. Have you been told that you may not? I didn't see it in the restrictions I read about for your country. It is driving my bmw that is partially keeping me sane.
