You say you read the thread but still ask for help? There is no solution to the noise but to use plain face rotors. All dimpled or slotted rotors will suffer from this noise.

I am planning a brake job in the spring/summer 2021 on my 2017 440ix and was seriously considering the M Performance Brake Retrofit w/ red calipers until I read these posts about noise. I have the M Sports package (P337A) on my car with the gray colored calipers. My F32 is my daily driver and I do not track. When I replace my brakes I would like to upgrade the calipers to the blue or red M performance caliper. Based on this thread I am thinking of not going with cross-drilled or dimpled rotors but plain or slotted. If I forego the M Performance Brake Kit, what components would you recommend I consider in its place?

I am also planning on upgrading to M Performance Brake retrofit w/ red calipers...this thread has added another perspective.
Thought I would share this BMW link about the M Performance Brakes I found. ...they maybe noisy and annoying...but I admit...they look so sweet compared to the base brakes with the 1 piston rear caliper...which I have. |

I replaced the pads + discs on M135i 2 weeks ago and this noise has been driving me crazy!!
I’ve had the wheels off to inspect brakes about 3 times since including applying more grease and replacing brake clips/pins It’s difficult to even explain the type of noise it is! I was telling my mechanic its like a chittering/chattering sound lol! When I apply the brakes from 65kmph it chitters and if I apply at higher speeds its chitters a lot! Glad I found this thread and specifically your video as I was going insane! |

I had the same issue with the slotted dimpled rotors, here's a video to demonstrate the noise. I thought I did something wrong but glad I found this forum.
It's noticeable by just turning the wheels, but it gets louder in higher speed. https://1drv.ms/v/s!Al7GTuxpQBgg6WHf...bgBzW?e=E2iFUI |

Hi All
I had the same problem. BMW F30 LCI. Large blue brake system (370mm front brake disc, 345mm rear brake disc). It has a factory brake disc. I tried several brake pads. Factory, TRW, ATE Ceramic, Quaro Ceramic brake pads. Unfortunately, none of them provided a solution. A car mechanic has successfully used the EBC Yellowstuff insert on several cars (BMW M8, BMW X6M). I also bought one for the front brake and so far I have used over 1200km without any problems. |

ticking and squealing are not due to dimples.
dimpled rotors make this swooshing cricket like sound by the air being trapped between the pad and rotor. squealing, that sounds more like they didn't apply copper grease to the back of the pads, and the ticking could be something touching like caliper or dust-shield. |

if its cricket, then yes it is the dimples. i wouldn't recommend drilling them out though, i would just re-sell them and buy blank rotors. i've had all kinds of rotors in the past; drilled and slotted, just slotted, j-hook, and now the dimpled MP rotors. In my experience they all make some noise, some more than others. Blanks are your best best in not making noise.

NO! Do NOT attempt to drill out dimples. They weren't meant to drill out so the structural rotor vanes could be beneath them.

I have the noise with the ebc red stuff pads, the dimpled slitted rotors of course. The ebc yellows I believe are the same pad design just a different compound so probably would still make the noise I would think. ?
I think it's air clipping in the rotors. I look forward to trying blank rotors as soon as these ones are cooked. The smart thing to do is just buy the calipers used do not buy the entire kit as the pads suck and the rotors make the noise Also when the inspection shop had to pull the wheels and of course impacted them on I think it was a bit louder. Retorqued to 104lbft and it's a light clipping. |
