The LSD will definitely NOT interfere with any of the BMW nannies. I wish I found this thread before they all backordered. REALoem shows its compatibility with xdrive cars.

The maximum slip is not enough to trigger xdrive or DSC/ediffs.

Did you mean DSC? That was the only system i could see maybe being a issue. Yet i still can't see why, as it works off differentiating wheel speed, no? Could coding circumvent a DSC/eLSD issue?

And to reiterate, I'm not saying any of you are dead wrong. I agree this possibly might not work, but I'm not seeing why, bimmerworld claimed it would work and a fairly high level Porsche/BMW race shop in town couldn't find a reason it wouldn't.

I'm not trying to be ignorant or ignoring of evidence, but saying it won't work and not being able to give more detail is unacceptable, in my opinion.
Autocorrect got me, yes I meant DSC

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered one and said it would be here this week. I guess Saturday is going to be another car day.

I will say on mk5/mk6 volkswagens, people used to swap transmissions and change the final drive ratios on manual cars to get stronger/longer gearing for big turbo setups. It bolted up fine, MPG improved, but it did mess with some things. Cruise control being completely disabled due to mismatching engine/wheel speeds was one of the more noticeable ones. No one could figure out how to code it. You also lose torque/passing power on the highway since it effectively lengthens your 6th gear.

For a track car I'd jump on it because I'm sure it'll bolt up and function without a problem, but for a daily driver I won't risk it. I enjoy rowing through the gears but I like my cruise control and other things too

I don't think this was ever mentioned on the post but for the folks who are not as knowledgeable as others, can someone explain in detail what this LSD is and more importantly, how would the driver feel the gain through this mod? Is it really worth it? I drive a 2014 RWD 335i so assuming this will fit my car.

The limited slip helps with traction and how your car is distributing power to both wheels. In a situation where your car is losing traction on one wheel, an open differential sends more power to the wheel that’s actually slipping. When an limited slip differential (LSD) detects that one wheel is losing traction, it gives delivers more power to the to wheel that has grip giving you more control, especially around corners. Some BMWs have an electronic limited slip (eLSD) which attempts to mimic the mechanical LSDs by using brakes to limit spin when traction is being lost rather than just transferring the torque mechanically. This results in behavior that is supposedly similar, but not as predictable or smooth as a mechanical LSD like the M Performance diff. There have been several discussions on the boards about whether the mod is worth it. Seems like it’s pretty subjective. Some argue that it’s a must for the track or if you’re a spirited driver. Others have argued it great even for daily drivers, etc. There are several options when it comes to LSDs: Helical, Torsen, Viscous, and Mechanical. However, $600 is absurdly low for an LSD and I wouldn’t blink at the chance to pick this up if it fit my car. Some other guys with LSDs can give you much better feedback on feel. Hope that helps.

So now that F30 platform is over how long do we have to wait until we see a similar deal on 340i MT?

The ones on sale went out with the pre-LCI in 2016.

As the 3.23 Manuals are still used in the F32 series, add 2 years for that to end and then 3 years after that, for a total of 5+ years.

It's also a fair assumption that these did NOT sale as expected, thus the $1000 discount 18 Months ago on Black Friday and the Inventory reduction now. With that in mind, you have no idea that there is an excess of inventory of the 3.23 for manual transmissions as 1) So few manuals are sold why would they make that many and 2) They might have seen sales for last several years and not ordered as many upfront.

I guess you'll find out in the 2024-2025 timeframe.

FWIW, all BMW stock in the USA is now sold out on the 3.15 and the remaining stock is in Germany as of this post.

ECS (wasn’t the cheapest of the sales) but mine shipped today expected delivery is Wednesday. Still on the fence about doing it myself. Local shop quoted me $300-350 for the install. Might take them up on it.

Would be all in for under $1k. Amazing deal.

I paid a shop 350 bux to swap it in. It's not worth doing yourself unless you want to save 350 bux.

For those of us with a 340i 6MT, there's a guy on eBay selling one brand new for $1700+$150 shipping (#33108659988). I asked the seller if BMW would honor the warranty if they installed it and he said no. If someone wants to pick one up without the warranty, then it's still available. You can search eBay.com for the part #33108659988 and you'll see it. I know...it's 3x the 335i sale price, but relatively speaking it's the cheapest new one I've seen on the open market.

There is a thread on this from about 60 days ago. He also had 2 of the Autos for same price that sold to 2 members.

Unless they're just clearing out old inventory now that the G20 is at dealers?
At this price, even if there was a new revision, it's still completely worth it. If the manual version was also discounted I'd buy it in a heartbeat. All these cars should have come with an LSD.

It sounds good until you find out they have chronic issues to fail, leak, make noise, etc. ymmv

I seen this on Monday morning from my email, thought it was a misprint, I called and it was correctly listed for $560! So I bought it on the spot from Bimmerworld. Said it was back ordered and will be here first of June. Going to have local dealer install. I'm geeked about this deal, I would have never guessed I could get an LSD and have it installed for under a grand! Question is what else is needed for installation? Oil, any gasket, c-clip, or?? Is there any break in required?

Finally, my RWD 335i will have the missing piece!
