iDrive shows Message icon, can't find message tho..

Good morning,

So I bought my car about a week ago, and I noticed that my little notification bar on my iDrive screen has a small envelope icon, which I'd assume means there's a message unread somewhere. Well I've searched all through the settings and I cannot figure out what the message is for anywhere.

Things I've tried - Checked and cleared phone voicemails, access mail from "Office" option but there is nothing but Contacts listed in Office, updated system software, and called BMW Genius.

None of these things have worked, and even the BMW Genius was like, "oh wow that's weird, idk man.." Smh, thanks for the outstanding customer service there buddy..

So I'm just curious if there is some sort of way to reset the iDrive all to default settings since I'm a new owner now and maybe this was lingering from the previous owner or something of that nature..?

When I go to Office, I don't have anything in there except "Contacts", and apparently that's where the "Messages" should be listed, right?

I have the older I drive where I go to connected drive option and view messages from there. I've only seen destinations I've sent from my phone to the car in there using the connected app.

I can't even get Connected Drive to work for some reason.. My car has every option, tech package, etc, so idk.. I just sent them an email..

This is a brand new car? That is weird. Should be covered by warranty if the LTE modem isn't working.

No, it's a new to me car lol, it's a 2013 F30 335i.

I have the same issue with our 2014 X1. The envelope icon is there but no way to clear it or see what it is. Someone help!

I got this when I sent a destination to the car from my connected drive app on iPhone. I didn't know until I went to messages on the iDrive and selected the destination then it cleared. It has never been there otherwise without something being there for attention.

No, it's a new to me car lol, it's a 2013 F30 335i.

I think that has a 2G modem and att discontinued 2G service a couple years ago. You will need to upgrade the modem through BimmerTech as I don't think bmw will do it. Surprised the genius didn't know.

Here's an article regarding connected drive service discontinuation on MY2013 and older.

BMW would retrofit if you were in the free period but not if you had a paid subscription or trying to initiate service on an existing vehicle, something this article doesn't make clear. Not sure if they've changed their policy haven't heard anything so you'd have to go with BimmerTech for a retrofit.

2014 X1 also has 2G modem so no longer supported.

Hey bro did you get the messages figured out? If you have an iPhone you have to make the iMessage/text notification to always preview for it to work in the connected drive office - that's how I was get it to work in mine

Waddup Rik, and no man I couldn't figure it out yet lol..

I'm gonna just go by BMW after work and see if they can figure it out.. I've removed all profiles, readded them, unsynced and resynced my phone, etc.. Still that envelope icons appears in my notification panel on my idrive..

I went to BMW Genius and asked why I can't view my imessage on idrive and he informed that AT&T and most carriers to broadcast message on newer car even on Apple Carplay mode.
I tested it out on my wife's M3 and the message came through, it's kind of weird that older version E93 worked but not on F80.

Yeah i heard about that whole AT&T thing, but it's just weird because I still cannot get rid of this envelope icon, and neither could my local BMW Genius... smh...

If you have an iPhone you need to turn on the setting that lets you view your text messages without unlocking your phone. Also may need to have the $50/annual ConnectedDrive subscription if you can't see "Messages" at all (check your ConnectedDrive account online). At least for my 2014 F30.

connected drive won't work for older than 2014 cars as they have the 2G headunit. The headunit will need to be upgraded with a newer unit through an aftermarket vendor or DIY, or with an aftermarket unit.

My was FY2018 and I've done all setting on my iPhone and still couldn't read any incoming imessage.

So what are the chances that this message notification I'm getting is from the previous owner, and since the network doesn't work anymore there's no way for me to access it any longer and I'm stuck with a notification, when in fact I have no way of receiving it..???
