Yes......you're right......we get hosed here in the north. We easily pay 10 grand more for similar spec cars. And the taxes are higher as our housing costs etc....PLEASE don't rub it in

Although, It did make the decision process a hellovalut easier with our premium package that included nav, hk, xenons, & comfort. I would definitely prefer to pay less than have less decisions to make though!!!

I drive on unlit roads at night. The F30 has great adaptive headlights. Best system I have experienced.

Aslo the Automatic high-beams are GREAT. I was skeptical and cautious to try this feature as I don't want to blind people. But on long stretches of unlit road it nocks the high-beams out about 400m out and and kicks them back on as soon as the car passes your front bumper. Very impressed with it.

You know, I've been thinking about this and think that the xenon headlights are so expensive since the BMW they are Bi-Xenon.

Hear me out, you're getting two xenon lamps per headlight, for most other cars you just get one! I walk my dog every morning and see many, many cars but over and over I see just one xenon for the most part.

Thoughts?

I don't think anyone is complaining about how expensive the xenons are as a stand alone option. I think the complaint is that you MUST buy the premium package (328i) to even get xenons as option. Some folks just don't care for the prem package.

For me, I didn't want the premium package but i wanted xenons. So I just ordered a 335i instead. I understand the reasoning behind BMW packaging specific things a certain way, but most folks lament about how the xenons were packaged for the 328i.

That and sports seats across all lines.

YES! A US spec base AW 328i with a la carte options of sport seats , Xenon, and a wheel upgrade would be 35,795 plus around another 3,000 for the boxes ticked...all for under 39K. Otherwise, it's almost 43K.

I'm pretty sure those base wheels are as ugly as they are so that you have to order a 'line'. BMW has always had the some of the best wheel designs.

There's got to be so much extra margin in it, I don't see it changing unless enough people reject the packages. It's a price sensitive market.

LMAO - that depends on the user I suppose. At the glorious age of 47 my old eyes now need bifocals and roughly 4 times the light that they did at age 16! Between the wife's TSX and my GTI, both of us have HID's and I'll never go without them again if possible. I hate being on the road in a rental with halogen headlights now in general. The active curve feature may seem hokey - I personally like it a lot and am glad it's on my GTI. To each their own though. $0.02......

Ugh, I hate the 2005. Fixed low beam HID, halogen high beams (no bi-xenons). Plus they just chopped off the top of the beam to make the JDM lights meet DOT specs. I like my GTI's much better. Of course they're 5 years newer in design and technology.

Personally, I'd eschew anything that makes me buy the premium package. That thing is such a waste of money unless one is going to get power seats, leather, and a moon roof anyway. For my pat, I only want the moon roof; I'm fine without the other two things.

I agree that most of the premium pack is kind of a waste, but I did initially regret not getting the lumbar support. I found the sports seat (in my E90) to be very uncomfortable for the first 6 months of ownership. I was using a rolled up towel for lumbar.

But then, either my back got used to it, or the seat cushion/leather got broken in, and now I find it very comfortable even on long drives. Weird.

Nothing says premium like a rolled up towel to compensate for the lack of lumbar support.

Yeah well, can your fancy factory lumbar support clean up after a 4 year old when she spills milk on her car seat? I didn't think so.

Sorry, don't know much about F30's yet but I would assume that HIDs would be standard if you get a 335....Correct?

Xenon (HID) headlight assembly is a $1200 part on E90s. If the headlight gets damaged, the entire assembly has to be changed as BMW does not sell the individual bits separately. And if the xenon light bulb is broken, that's another $230 on top.

I broke mine (E91) hitting a deer head because of the poor range and low sharp cut-off of those xenons. An $1800 headlight fix. Ouch! Could've been worse I guess.

The regular halogen headlights on my 128i (E88) may not look as cool but are 10x better on a country road.

If you can, test-drive those HIDs before buying and you may be surprised!

That's pretty much my feeling. I suspect many forum members live in urban areas and rarely drive on pitch black roads that nonetheless are not deserted enough to use high beams.

I realized that the xenon on my wife's TSX has better range, so I adjusted mine to have about the same angle with respect to the road. It works much better now, and so far I've never gotten a flash from the oncoming traffic.

I totally agree that BMW should either make Xenon as a standard option or an alone option without the need of premium package.
sun roof is useless for me.

for anyone interested, this is from lightwerkz:

Im sure we can do a full projector conversion for you, and add the angel eyes. Would be happy to talk about a discounted price as well. Since these headlights are sealed with the permanent sealant, the labor rate runs $1130 for the conversion, and the parts packages start at $315 for the FXR Stage 1 kit for example. If you have a set of angel eyes for us to install, we can do that as well. let me know if you have any questions. Thanks
