Car totaled/ water damage
2009 BMW 328i, hit 1 foot of water on road, motor stoped, car towed to dealer. draler says motor ruined replacement cost $22,000. Allstate totaled the car. Any one ever hear of such a thing with this type of car.

It's unusual, but not impossible. One way it can happen is if water gets into the cylinders. Normally the fuel/air mixture in the cylinders is compressed by the motion of the pistons, but water can't be compressed, so the pistons won't be able to move the way they should. That can cause everything from bent connecting rods to a broken crankshaft. This can happen to any car, not just BMW.
