Question High frequency noise coming in from the vents...

Hi guys, hope you’re having a blast!

I’ve recently gotten into the bmw world (2014 f32, n47t, 46k km) and I have troubles with finding out what makes this weird “ringing” noise that comes through the center vents. I’ve attached a clip with an f31 from the same year with the same issue:

AC off, heating wheel all the way to cold, inside temp to match outside.
The blower motor is rulled out since the noise stops immediately as the AC is engaged.

Went to BMW for a paid diagnosis and they didn’t “notice” it (most likely they engaged the AC)...
I’m kind of stuck with this, any help is highly appreciated.

Wishing you an excellent weekend ahead,

The sound is rather faint but perhaps one can hear it better as it happens.

I think it will be helpful to return to BMW and demonstrate the problem while a senior technician (shop foreman in the US) is present. This approach eliminates the chance of "could not replicate" response.

Leave the AC on, set to automatic. There's no reason to ever turn it off.

I had this exact sound. Turns out my rear differential was leaking due to bad gasket. Got the gaskets replaced and sound is gone.

Rear diff ?
I'm clueless atm.
With which engine did your car come equipped with? N47T? (guessing that you're not talking about the model from your signature)

cfm56d7b: Thanks but that's where I'm coming from and they've got no clue..

Billfitz: Thanks for the advice, I rarely use it as it's not necessary

When the AC isn't necessary it doesn't do anything. Set it on Auto and forget it. Having it 'On' only insures that when it should be working it will be.
