Thoughts on pre-LCI tails?

One thing about BMWs of late that bother me are the all red tail lights. I like the pre LCI design so I went with a used set from eBay UK. Love the look and it stands out especially with the Estoril paint.

I have the Euro LEDs on my 440i. It's still all Red, but the turn signal lights up amber. I prefer the all red because the amber looks kind of random. I also got color matched front sidemarkers so there's no exposed amber on the car anywhere. Sometimes it looks a little pink as you can see in the pic.

That's the crème de la crème right there mayn. I'd love a set of Euro tails simply for the amber blinkers.

Totally agree. Can anyone tell me why the tail lights are all red in the U.S.? I always thought it was odd, especially as I grew up in Europe where amber lights are the norm.

I liked the light bars in the pre-LCI tail lights but I greatly prefer the look of the LED tails. I upgraded to the euro blackline tail lights with amber turn signals and couldn't be happier.

Because our rules on rear lighting are stupid, and antiquated.

Red turns aren't a requirement, but most people prefer the look of all red. Ze Germanz found a nice way to mesh the red look with the Euro requirement for amber turns in the rear. On my volkwagen it was the same way. The lights light up red but switch to yellow LEDs for the turn signals.

What's even more surprising is how America requires amber side markers up front, but europe doesn't. That's why european headlights/bumpers don't have the amber reflector on the front.

I got mine from original-autoparts .com for about $1000 shipped with a trunk wiring harness. They're in the M4 section.

I can only speak for the F32 euro tails but no, the turn signal lights do not light up for anything other than the turn signal.

Correct. I the turn signal only lights up red on US-Spec lights. I've gotten a pic like that with the hazards on.

The brake lights are in a space behind the LED piping, just like the normal LED tails. I know it looks amber in this pic but it's not. It's red.

ok thanks. Was just curious. I'm a bit of a stickler for period correct so I'll most likely just keep the amber pre-face on my '16.

Are those Apex SM-10 wheels? Black wheels on black car is looking good again, are they satin black?

Getting rid of my pre-LCI tails was one of my favorite upgrades. LED's just perform and look so much better. They're more evenly lit, brighter, with clean sharp lines when lit up. There's a reason they were "facelifted" with a clear improvement over old bulb technology. That's like buying a heavy plasma TV in this day in age.

Nope they are Volk ZE40. Forged, lighter, etc.

The actual color is called Diamond Dark Gunmetal, so it's a dark grey with a bunch of flake in it. It just tends to look black.
