F30 in the High Rockies

Hello Bimmerpost,

I am considering bringing my F30 330i Shadowline up to Steamboat Springs, CO from Southern California, and I am wondering what ownership might look like in the High Rockies.

The car has been an Orange County / San Diego based car its whole life, and has rarely seen inclement weather. It is currently a secondary vehicle that I enjoy maybe 8,000+/- miles per year in.

The car is still under warranty through Jan 2024 so I'd expect to bring the vehicle to a BMW Center for any major issues, however would certainly prefer an independent shop for routine maintenance. Does anyone have any recommendations for shops west of the continental divide? If Denver is my best bet, who would you recommend?

Running OE wheels/tires however may consider purchasing a dedicated winter set if my desire to drive the car justifies the cost. It is RWD so I'd likely keep it garaged from around November to May, depending on the snow season. If kept stored, are there any recommended measures I'd want to take to ensure its kept healthy?

Any other general feedback or commentary is welcomed. Thanks!

~Mike

My car has summited Loveland pass a few times. My car is a xDrive car so I get away with a good set of all seasons. For your RWD car a good set of winter tires will be just fine.

Don't worry about it

Not just for the OP, but for anyone that reads this post in the future. But in Colorado, a good set of winter tires are definitely worth it! When I first moved he I outfitted just about all my cars with a 2nd set of winter wheels/tires. Just grab a set of used wheels off FB Marketplace, Craigslist, Offer-Up, etc. The difference between All-Season, and a good pair of winter tires "can" be drastic. RWD, FWD, AWD to me it doesn't matter, I prefer a set of dedicated winters. If you prefer A/S at least get 3-Peak rated tires.
