Oh right, I was told it was done via the USB cable that I had routed in the glove box.

Sure I tried it wirelessly at first and it either wouldn't start or wasn't supported. Do you have an app to start it all?

I could only connect if the car had the hotspot enabled and even then android auto doesn't load.

Tbh if I can't get google maps working as it should, other than having a larger screen than standard 8.8" I wouldn't use it for much else.

Why not just get a sim card for the android unit? It works perfectly and no longer relies on your phone

I think it's an issue with my unit, to be honest. Waze doesn't work either when I just tested it and showed no navigation/signal just like google maps over Wifi, sim card, and hot-spotting.

Standard idrive navigation works as it should.

I've just sent a video of it all to droiduk showing I can update all apps & access the internet but something is off/weird on the navigation side of things.

It has a host of features including Navigation, internet browser, DVD playback, to name but a few. Whilst the system runs a stand alone Android OS, a quick tap on one of the options on the screen brings you back to BMW original idrive system should you need to change any car settings.

Full HD 1080P music videos and movies can also be watched full screen in high definition, uploaded onto the system via USB.

Im very pleased with the smoothness and responsiveness of the screen, it goes above and beyond my expectations of it, it looks and feels OEM and it is a true multimedia experience in your car, a great solution for anyone looking to upgrade from their very basic screen or pro nav screen.

Please note, this is not the Avin USA screen you have saw elsewhere on the forum, they seem to have major build quality issues. This one is much different has been developed for use on the European market.

I disconnected my screen and idrive to see if adding a gps splitter would help the situation.

Turns out i don't have the input for the splitter on my idrive unit and presume all the gps side of things must be in with all the cables in the harness.

Reseated the gps cable going into the android screen and retried and it, does take a minute or two to track down satellites but Google maps seems to be working on the 2 occasions I tried it.
