Right low beam lamp malfunction

I'm sure this is common. I did some searching but just wanted to be sure.

I found the below product link on amazon which seems to fit however a Q&A which I found had me questioning if my car had HID or Halogen headlamps.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...LYY81PTV&psc=1

Q: 2013 bmw 328i sedan. Need low beam

A: This H11 only fit fog light in your car, for low beam, if your car has 4 halogen headlamps, not 2 HID headlamps, you can use H7 as low beam, if your car has 2 HID headlamps, you need D1S to work as dual beam headlights.
By Vouke Direct on April 25, 2019

I've also attached some pictures of the exact issue. The beam seems to flicker in and out and stays sometimes and goes completely out others.

Thank you,

Christopher

You have to replace the bulb with the same bulb type as is there now, not with an LED, which will open a very large can of worms that I doubt you want to deal with. It appears that you have projector lenses on the lows, which probably indicates you have HID. Having it checked out by someone qualified is your best bet.

Thanks for your input. My plan is to purchase the part and install myself. I feel very capable to do so I just need to figure out the correct part and where to get it.

Thanks,

Christopher

never heard of it and I'm always suspect of the cheapest option on rock auto. It may be unfounded but I like that Hella has two color options. 4300 & 5k. I'll give you a better shot of matching the color temp.

Most of my research tells me that a 2013 328i f30 has stock xenons at 4300. Think that's accurate?

thx,

Chris

Do you think 4300 or 5000 is the correct temperature for Xenon?

Thanks,

Christopher

No idea. I'd pull the original bulb, it should have markings on it that identify what it make and model it is.

Turn the tire on that side out & reach in to release the cover & remove bulb.

Yes, almost without exception. Don't waste your time/$$.

Check with FCPEuro.com - they have a lifetime replacement policy. Buy it once (even oil & filters) & when you reorder you send your parts back & they send you replacements. Of course, first you need to determine what bulb you need.

Our '13 328iX had the halogen setup - I went with candlepower.com's VOSLA H7 55W +120 "Superbrite Light" for the low beams. They also sell D1S bulbs.

I know this thread is a few months old but I can't find any recent information on my specific issue. My left low beam went out the other night so I tested a new bulb and it worked fine. Next day it's out again, already had depos lights on order to replace halogens so installed those shortly after the issue arose and it's still not working. All the other lights work perfectly fine and I also checked the fuses and they're intact. Can anyone who's experienced this help me out?

The things to check are the bulb, the sockets at both ends and wiring, the fuses and the FEM, front electronics module. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ent/1VnYO7cQT0

Thanks for the reply. Where is the actual FEM located on in the car? Like what does it look like?

Once the circuit has shorted a given number of times the car protects itself by preventing further resets until the problem has been fixed and verified by clearing the code. AL_L does refer to the left low beam. It could be a short in the wiring.

Okay so even if the issue is fixed the light still won't turn on unless the code is reset? Or will the car just keep throwing low beam malfunctions in the dash with the working light?

The '804194 output AL_L has a short circuit' won't need to be cleared, because once the fault is fixed there won't be a short circuit. The '8041A5 one or more outputs have exceeded the number of permissible short circuit cycles' will have to be cleared. That's a simple procedure if you have the right tool. My Foxwell NT510 can do it. I don't have Bimmerlink so I don't know if it can.
