M340i badge on F31 340i?

Hi all,

New member to the F31 340i gang. Moved from an F10 M5.

When I purchased the car it had been debadged by the previous owner and I'm personally not a fan. I like the look of the M340i badge but I realise that within the fanbase the F3X 340 was a 340 and NOT an M340. Am I committing a grave sin by putting a black M340i badge on my black estate? I normally hate pointless M badges but I just think it goes well with my 340i.

Thoughts?

Personally I prefer the debaged look. If you like it, put it on. It's your car...

Your car, your choice. But if it's not an M340i, then it shouldn't have the badge IMO.

Absolutely fine, it’s part of the B58 line up of M140i M240i

It’s just been formalised for the G20 platform, that’s all. Pretty much an m lite tbf.

It's your car, enjoy it and if adding the badge makes it better, then do it. :-)

I'm in the anti M badge camp. Pitchfork by my side..
Also anything M on a non M car like those horny mirrors or double slat grills.

It's not a M340i so I don't see the need to add the G series badge.

I took the little badges off my front wings as it makes it much cleaner to my eyes.

Do what you like to your car. Unless your modifying your car for other peoples opinions, then you shouldnt care what other peoples opinions are.

I wouldn't, but it isn't my car (or an M340i)

I wouldn't - put the correct badge on the car or not at all.

Re-badging a car is fine. Re-badging it as something it's not isn't. Why be a wannabe ?

Just my opinions of course.

People who are into cars will know exactly what it is without a badge , people who are not into cars will not care - you could put an AMG badge on your car and 90% of the general public wouldn`t give it a second glance.

FWIW i prefer the cleaner de-badged look.

Had a feeling it would grind some gears because in all honesty it grinds my gears when I see pointless M badges. I just prefer the new M340i badge and think it looks clean/OEM/factory on the F31 340i.

I’ll give it a couple weeks before putting anything on. Might just cut the M off the decal and attach the 340i on its own. Will see how I feel.

FWIW I’m not trying to imitate another car. I just see that akin to having an FN2 Civic type R and upgrading the ‘type R’ badge to the newer model emblem or something.

Aesthetically I just think it looks nicer to me, personally. 99% of the world will not care or notice. But I am asking the 1% who will care and notice for their opinions lol. Cheers for your input all.

I took the chrome finish 340i off mine & thought it looked too plain, so replace it with a black letters with the exact same font. You see it but as the car's black you don't see it, if you know what I mean.

Personally I wouldn't put a badge on a car that was not designed to be on the car in the first place. But as said it's your car and if you like it thats what matters.

Yehh my feeling exactly. Thought I liked the debadged look but it just feels a bit soul-less from the back.

I wanted dark graphite badging but struggled to get a hold of OEM 340i in graphite so going for black.

Haven’t made my mind up on the M340 badging yet. The car is fantastic though and surprisingly very content even when comparing to the 4.4L V8. Will be getting the MPSSK kit kinda’ soonish so more things to be excited about.

That car is still a type R though. Yours is a 340i with an Msport pack. It isnt an M340i

+1. All badges removed from mine and much prefer the look.

Sacrilege to add m340i badge IMO but each to their own and echo others in the ‘do what you want to your car’ camp.

To be honest arguably what's wrong is the M340i badge on the G-series - it's no M-car and IMHO would have been more appropriately badged as a 340i (just like the F-series was). But I've had mine debadged so it's no odds to me either way!

It’s not a full fat M, however the engine and suspension have had input from M division on the M340. Hence the extra 50+hp.
OP- Re the badge… do what ever you fancy haters will hate, most wont care, your car your call…,,,

Only if you get the mppsk pack

I've debadged my 335d and I committed a little sin by removing backbox and doing the x40i wheelbarrow mod.
If you want to.. the go for it
