I’d want more sidewalll, 225/50/18 would be preferred if your set in 18s.

Agreed, 40 series tires is begging for pothole damage to tires and rims. Not that there are any potholes in NYC...

I specifically went with 225-55/17s to lessen the risk of tire and rim damage on my yearly NYC Broadway Show trip. The last thing I need is to be looking for tires and/or rims on a Sunday 300 miles from home.

stock wheel for the staggered 400m size is:
18x8" ET34
18x8.5" ET47

so 5mm more poke up front and 7 in the rear, shouldnt be an issue

They might not fit with MSport brakes.

Enter your make/model into tirerack, they should be accurate: https://www.tirerack.com

Depends if you have the msport with standard brakes or the msport brakes... A 328 with single piston front brakes would max out with a 330mm rotor (~13") and should fit on 16's (per tirerack.) Unpainted/blue 4 pistons calipers up front are 340mm and tirerack says those can only handle 17" wheels as the smallest. Bigger than that msport brakes need 18" as the min
