CarPlay MMI aftermarket solutions
I have been through multiple threads for this subject and they keep running long and the info ends up being lost.
I am looking to add CarPlay to my ID4 NBT Evo HK system, on a late 2015 435d. I want to keep the stock microphone and it's pretty good noise reduction (my car is a convertible so I want to be able to have a conversation with the top down). Also, I want to be able to hear both navigation instructions and music/phone calls at the same time. I don't mind having a wired connection, since I already plug my phone in when I get in the car. I heard that the sound quality gets worse. Will that be noticeable? I tend to put the music quite loud from time to time and I wouldn't want it to sound rubbish. The main reason I want this is to be able to have waze on the screen and hearing its notifications/instructions while listening to music/being on a call. What is my best solution without breaking the bank? And without having to go the ID5/6 retrofit? Thanks for the help. |

UAD and Bimmertech had/have a wired box that uses the car's mic. Unichip needs external mic (you need to double check that one).

I have the Unique-AD box. Some people don't like the sound but I have no complaints. I have had a few crashes in use that needed the car turning off or the reset button pressed to reset the box. On the whole for a box that hacks into original equipment I am happy with my purchase. Much better than an Avin unit experience I had a couple of years ago.

I haven't asked about an update yet as it really doesn't affect me often. With regards sound quality is in the ears of the listener. Some people are just very sensitive to what they here. I also only have the base system so those with higher quality speaker setups may well be right in that the sound is poor.

I have the unique AD box, and I love it. Yes the sound from AUX is bad, but it really doesn't apply to me, as I still play everything over Bluetooth. The only thing I miss using AUX is hearing turn by turn directions, which I don't need.
So by keeping Bluetooth as the media input source on the car, I still have a great sound for audio and can use Siri for texts.
