If you enable 720p resolution in Android Auto developer settings on the phone it will look much better when using the dongle and the iDrive controller will work using Android Auto then.

I have no Developer mode on my phones app. How do I get to this feature?

Open menu and choose settings
Scroll to the bottom. click a few times on version.
Developer mode will be activated
You have new menu item under the threee dots upper left

Hi all, I may have missed this being discussed in the thread but I just installed the Avin Gen 2 in my 2016 435i and have run into an issue. When I press the Voice Command button on the steering wheel, it functions normally but it also launches the Android side Navigation (Waze/Google Maps) app as well.

Waiting on Avin support to respond and thought I'd ask about it here as well. Thanks!

I had the same issue, you need an MCU update.
i also had following MCU issues:

* Voice key always start Android Navigation.
* Navi Key was not selectable, started always Android Navigation
* Tel Key was not selectable, startet always Android Phone
* Brightness controll was always on

it seems they just reconfigured the MCU to the settings i need, now the features work as i want them but the selection still does not work.

Try press and hold the voice command button, then only voice control activates. It used to work for me on my gen2 4 4.4 unit.

Sorry for bringing up an old post. Regarding the connectors, if the head unit has a NBT connector, the screen OEM screen also has a NBT connector, right? (The purple cable connects the head unit to the screen, right?)

Sorry for the question, but right now I don't have the opportunity to check that myself, but I do remember that my head unit has a NBT connector, even though the interface looks like CIC.

I have had the Gen2 8.1 display for nearly a year. Everything working as it should and I even had full use of the iDrive control knob in CarPlay (left/right/up/down/select... everything).

I updated the latest firmware AutoPlayBox_2019.05.10.1138.apk (latest available on Avin support as of 9/8/2019) for the white dongle and now the iDrive controller has only left/right working. Select does not work, when I push the knob to the right it jumps two places instead of one.

I've already tried the key learning to see if that would do anything but it doesn't. It was very convenient to use the iDrive controller in Carplay and I hope it is fixed soon.

After some research I found Headunit Reloaded (HUR) on XDA Forums/Labs. After installing the newest beta version of HUR on the Avin unit, I don't even need the USB dongle anymore. I just plug my phone into the USB cable and HUR boots up into Android Auto with a perfect aspect ratio, no stretched screen.

I also managed to disable the permission "draw over other apps" or "appear on top" (I can't remember exactly what the setting was called) for the native Bluetooth app so it no longer boots me out of android auto when making or receiving calls. Voice commands work as does google maps. Maps can be laggy sometimes but it's usable.

Anyway, this has been a great solution for me and I just wanted to share what I've learned.

Sorry for the late response. I did the following on my 8.1 device:

Settings > More Settings > Apps & Notifications

Once you get here, scroll down to where it says show all apps and select it. Find the bluetooth app in the list and select it. Scroll down to the "display over other apps" setting and toggle it off.

That should do it!

I'm not sure where your antenna is mounted, but the installation instructions I used advised mounting the GPS antenna under the passenger side dash; my signal was awful there.

About 2 days ago I removed the center channel speaker cover behind the Avin screen (I think the cover is the same in the M135i?) and mounted my antenna in the empty pocket beside the speaker. I ran the GPS wire down through the same "tunnel" as the speaker wire to the Avin unit. So far the signal has been much improved (tested with gps status app) and the antenna is still hidden.

Like I've said in my previous posts, I've been using HUR for nav so i'm getting location data from both the phone and the antenna. Depending on what you're using for navigation your results might be different. Hopefully this helps!

Hi guys, I have a strange problem where my headunit died (Bluetooth, IDrive Radio etc) and didn't come back to like until I removed the HU power splitter for powering the Android screen and plugged the original BMW HU power and optic cable back into the Headunit and then Radio BT and original IDrive screen started working again but this means I can no longer use my Android screen.

I requested another power cable from uGode assuming it was the issue but the new cable didn't work either and radio BT and Idrive screen are wtill still not working

Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? Reverted back to removing screen and all Android cables.

I have an e87 with the latest cic business. My car was made in may 2011, so its one of the last e87's made.

Do I have to run the aux cable to get sound or not? If I have to - is there any way to modify the harness that I don't have to?

And also if I have to, is the quality noticeably worse than my stock bmw bluetooth streaming connection for spotify songs at the highest quality?
