Don't worry about it. Colder plugs are for the stage 2 flash tune due to the heat increase and even then are just preventive.

Of course. If you ever go to a flash tune and push it to Stage 2, you can take a look at them. They aren't absolutely necessary but it's similar to the chargepipe issue: you increase the risk of the plugs cracking due to the heat. Keep in mind that you may have the new plugs already as N20s come with them usually now. Easiest thing to do before ordering new plugs (unless you need new plugs anyway) is to pull them out and check the serial #.

I put new plugs in last year.. Not sure what the part number was anymore but could pull one and see.. Just read that some people were using M2/M3/M4 spark plugs that are meant for the S55 engine since they are a step or two colder..

It's the flip of that actually. M cars using the N20 plugs because they're a step colder. Really all you need is the NGK LI SILZKBR8D8S plugs and you'll be more than happy.

Question for you all

Normally I hose down my engine bay to wash off the dust every week or two. Is having the Dinantronics unit in there going to cause any issues?

I would assume the answer, as long as everything is secured the way it should be is no, but I'd like some piece of mind prior to doing it.

Also, I will post a review of my experience so far with the unit in a few days once I have had more time to drive the car on some open roads. Also waiting to use up the rest of the V-Power 91 I have in the tank before making the switch to 94 octane gas and Race mode on the tuner.

It's so simple to remove, I wouldn't take the risk. Would it be okay if it did get wet? Probably, but why risk it when the removal takes 10 seconds.

It's annoying to think that I'll be popping it off and on every single time I want to wash the engine bay. Maybe I'll just try and trap the actual unit in a zip-loc bag or something instead of taking it off.

Here's Dinan's response to waterproofing:
Quote:
The unit shouldn't be submerged in liquid or anything but the circuitry/plugs are conformally coated to protect against liquid elements.

Awesome, thank you.

This is pretty much what I expected. Shouldn't have any issues hosing down the engine bay area in this case, but I will probably zip-loc the unit as best as I can just in case.

I'll let you guys if my car still runs after I give her a nice bath on Friday!

So quick update - a zip-loc bag over the module is perfectly adequate if you plan to hose down your engine bay.

As for the review I promised, it'll have to be on hold until the temps cool down a bit. It's too difficult to gauge the car's true performance when:

A - the engine heat soak is real
B - the A/C has to stay on at least half-blast at all times

I'll update again soon!

I just washed down my engine bay the other week with the DINANSPORTRONICS installed.

I never cover it (or anything for that matter). Just use light water pressure, never spray electronics directly and make sure you let it dry before starting up the car. Using compressed air to blow it off is always a good option.

welcome to the slippery slope of mods. FMIC next?

BTW, what power loss did you feel when it heat soaked?

FMIC is unlikely. I may end up doing it, but it's not in the plans at the moment.

As for the power loss...it was just general sluggishness from the nearly 40 degree days we've been having. I know it's not directly from the tune because I've had a couple (albeit brief) chances to drive in the cooler evening temps and it's a noticeable difference in how the engine feels and performs.

FYI and on the subject of heat soak..
I have for sure felt massive heat soak on the car running +4psi.
Though my car is trying to do pulls in brutal Savannah summer heat.....

However, its still faster than stock, even when its heat soaked!

Heat soak is real in these cars for sure, hence why I just ordered an FMIC. Tired of the car being slow when it's 85°+, which is always in NJ during the summer for the most part.

Hahah, for this summer, definitely. I've got my kidney grills to install, and maybe a few other little touches/maintenance.

As for next summer...who knows
