No, shouldn't be. The center clips on the OEM diffusers fit correctly and are the proper overall width. The cheap rep ones like what I bought just are made poorly with cheap materials and cheap processes. Again, I wasn't surprised by this at all for $50, just frustrated.

Hey another north American wagon!!! Hello!

Some quick Qs:

1. Even the 2019s got the dinky little 6.5" screen as an option?

2. Why the street comfort over the V series? What settings are you using for the street comforts?

3. No EDC I imagine? So no issues with the street comforts that needed coding?

1. Yes, my wagon was poorly optioned. As this is my second F31, I was more concerned with Msport and color which left me with a bare-bones car as far as options. This included head unit not able to accommodate CarPlay, small screen, no HUD, no digital cluster, no rear sunshades and no rear seat heaters.
2. I drive the car 20-30k miles annually for work, doesn’t see any track use, only spirited driving. The Street Comforts fit that well and I’ve been happy with them overall. Concerning damping settings, I’m using the stock recommended setting all around (basically dead nuts in the middle)
3. No EDC

Decided to do a quick wrap on the interior as I was sick of the stock, shiny trim. Turned out pretty well, still need to do the silver trim around the shifter

As with most of the updates in this thread, it’s been a long time since I posted progress, I’ve been logging miles and making some small changes/upgrades along the way. Currently at 110k miles

SUSPENSION:

I’ve battled coil binding with my KW’s for the entirety of their time on this car, I finally changed out the front springs from the 2039 to the 2041 coils (used on the 6-cylinder F3x vehicles) and it made such a difference. You can see below the damage incurred by the 2039 coils equipped with the F31 coilovers, now suspension is compliant and silent. I know this has been discussed ad nauseum but I’m surprised KW hasn’t changed the coils on new sets. The individual I spoke with at KW in CA was completely unaware of this issue.

AUDIO:

As this car is equipped with the Hi-Fi base system, I installed a MatchUp 7 amp and am so happy I did. Wish I hadn’t waited this long but it was definitely worth it to add this. I’m not an audiophile per-se but do enjoy a well-rounded audio experience. Without replacing all of the component speakers, this is the best modification.

WHEELS:

Wanted to have the wheels refinished as even though they have been kept clean, there was some degradation in the coating. I originally wanted to mimic the Hyper Black color Apex offers in the ARC-8 but only in the 18” diameter, not the 19”. I had the wheels stripped and coated Hyper Black with black barrels but unfortunately thought it was too washed out with a grey car, I'm dropping the wheels off again on Monday for a recoat. Looking for some more contrast, I having the wheels recoated with a different type of silver. While doing this, I downsized to 245/35/19 Michelin Pilot Sport AS4’s as with the new 2041 KW coils, I was experiencing some scrubbing over harsh bumps.

Currently, I'm working on a new brake setup, replacing the oil filter housing with a metal version before I experience a failure, oil change and transmission fluid exchange. Will update once these tasks are completed

Thanks for the update. I switched out my 2039 springs for the 2041s last summer and it made a huge difference. No more crashing over every imperfection. I also downsized my tires, from 255/40/18 to 245/40, but have yet to mount my summer wheels as it's still a bit too cold.

It is a large design flaw with them but I’m glad I finally made the switch. I wouldn’t purchase another set of KW’s for an F31 without switching out the front springs prior to installation

Great build journal. Enjoyed the reading.

I’m in the market for my first F31. Stuck between a 2017 fully loaded option with 116,000 miles or a basic 2018 option without many of the bells and whistles but with only 67,500 miles. I see you said your current F31 has a lot less than your old one. Do you miss the extras? Should I go higher mileage more optionsor lower mileage less frills? Would not be a daily driver for me. It would be a fun project car.

I'm sure you'll love it, I've been happy with the ones I've had! I would say I certainly miss some of the options, however I've been able to retrofit the most critical ones (to me). I would focus on more of the maintenance aspect of each, if the 2018 has not been cared for, then the lower miles will not make much difference. Whereas if the 2017 has been cared for and is priced well, I'd opt for that one. Seeing that you're in Chicago I'd also be comparing paint and body but that's me.

MAINTENANCE:

The car has been extremely reliable for my entire ownership, with 110k miles currently, I presume in part to my maintenance schedule. However, I wanted to replace 2 of the large failure points with the B46/B48 platform – The plastic oil filter housing and plastic coolant fitting on the block underneath the manifold.

During this process, I completed the following
-Oil filter housing replacement (FCPEuro kit part# 11428596283KT1)
-Coolant hose block fitting (included in FCPEuro kit)
-Coolant change
-Oil change
-Transmission fluid and pan replacement
-Replace engine mounts
