As a side note, I'm almost 100% sure they are putting an LTE only modem in without any 5G connectivity so when LTE gets decommissioned I don't think BMW will provide another retrofit. I don't even think they're providing retrofits to CIC customers who upgraded to a 3G modem back in 2016.

I just called my local dealer about the upgrade on my 2014 435i. They bounced me around to 5 different people, 2 call backs, before they found someone that knew what I was talking about...and he told me he has no idea if my car, or any car will be eligible.

Just got through reading this whole thread. I have July/August 2015 build LCI F30 340I and I received the email last week. I some FDL coding including 4 blinks on the turn signal. I currently do not have a connected drive or RTTI subscription. I sometimes do use the connected drive app to send addresses to the navigation system, but that's it.

All this said, what will I miss by not getting the 4G modem upgrade? For those who got a connected drive subscription for this purpose, how much does it run these days?

I'm one of those who is somewhat paranoid about dealerships and do most maintenance myself. So, I'm hoping for some guidance here on whether or not this upgrade will be of any use to me considering I don't really care for RTTI or connected drive.

If you don't don't care for CD tools then you'll be fine. I too balk at giving my car to the dealer, considering they are going to dismantle the dash a bit (moderate OCD lol). Individual items like RTTI run about $50 a year, or you could get a bundle of about 5 items for $150.

How about remote services (locate vehicle, lock/unlock with phone app, etc.)? My Connected Drive account indicated that I am subscribed until August 2025. I'm assuming these with cease to function after Feb 2022 as well unless I avail the upgrade?

woah...mine was only a year complimentary, didn't continue since it cost to renew the subscription.
Did you sign up for couple more years?
And the upgrade i assume is for earlier models with previous modules. So if you have a newer model...you prob don't need it

Mine shows 4g too, but apparently the early 4g ones are no bueno either and will need the upgrade. Like me your 2016 is probably a late 2015 build. I'm setting up an appointment soon, I want to get this over with...

You can sign up for a year at a time, or not. I got a year of complimentary service with the CPO and have been renewing ever since, mostly for the RTTI. From reading this and other sources it appears that it's not clear exactly when the "newer models" you mentioned began. The MY 2017 are probably all fine, while 2016 may or may not be fine depending on build date/equipment.

Since I picked up the car in Sep 2015, I have not renewed Teleservice, Remote Services or Assist eCall. It appears that these were included free of charge for 10 years.

ARTTI, Concierge Services and BMW Online expired in Aug 2019 and I renewed for a year, through Aug 2020. Since I have all been mostly stuck at home for more than a year, I have not found the need to renew yet and I am reconsidering whether or not I should renew.

You're like me. My 2016 is at the dealer right now for the upgrade. They had to order the part, so I'm in a loaner. 2016 models seem to have 4G, but have equipment limitations that need to be upgraded.

That's what I meant by newer models as most owners that received the email are MY >2016 and few of them are MY2017.

Just got my car back from the dealer after the software update. iStep was updated. Went to flash and BM3 fails at 3%. Over multiple phones and a laptop. Won't make it past 3%, no more no less. Have a support message out to PTF....

Weird thing is I have a MY 2017, didn't receive an email. All the services for me expired and I went to renew and I was told my vehicle was unable to subscribe to the service. Talked to my SA about it and he has no idea about the situation or any upgrades. Told me I should talk to BMW Customer Service, I have a request into them for more information as to why I can not upgrade via the website.

That sucked...was thinking of getting BM3 and it would suck it gets locked after update and have to dish out for bench unlock ugh smh 🤦🏼

iStep is the latest F020-21-03-545 Confirmed DME is now locked. Pulling it out now to ship out to PTF, unless someone knows someone in the Chicago area that can do it....
