Yes about 4X a year reg go well over 100. In Germany that is.
I think they said the highest was 156mph by a m4 on the A1m near Sawtry. I know it well as its 5 mins from me. It's a 4 lane motorway that opens up. Very Straight but is patrolled by unmarked 330d. They have a black one that iv clocked before. But they have at least another of these. Bear in mind that cambridgeshire police County HQ is pretty much on the next exit at Huntingdon and the Traffic cops patrol it of there direct to A1 and A14. 156 is to much for UK roads. Germany people are trained and are expecting those sort of speeds and they have good lane manners. My wife took her licence in Germany many years ago now and there standard is alot higher. They have to do so many hrs night driving, motorway drive, basic car maintenance and first aid tests etc etc. Last edited by mikeoz; 02-25-2016 at 06:19 AM.. |

I found it amusing that a c200 was caught at 154mph. I'd of protested that haha

I drive to the Algarve last year did around 3,000 miles without one incident or anything to moan about and as soon as I got back on Uk soil I came up behind a lane hogger who thought it would be clever to slam on their brakes in front of me as they thought I was too close behind which I wasn't so I just moved to the middle lane and undertook them to avoid anymore stupid driving. while looking back in my mirror in the inside lane now they were still out in the outside holding everyone up. Muppets.

Over 100mph sounds a lot, especially to the granny in a Nissan Micra who has never done more than 35mph, but in a modern car it isn't, and depending where it is done, it's not dangerous. There are many other actions that I believe are far more dangerous than being 30-40mph over the speed limit such as texting whilst driving (people now seem unable to go more than 5 minutes without communicating with the rest of the world), running red lights (this has now reached epidemic proportions), rubber necking accidents (personally I think rubber neckers should be dragged from their vehicle, kicked and punched repeatedly then stood against the wall and shot), drink/drug driving, driving tired and falling asleep, plus many others. Speed in itself is not inherently dangerous, it is where and when it is done that can make it so, it is just the easiest offence to target and categorise.
Having said all that, since I retired a couple of years ago, I find I am no longer in such a hurry and I am quite happy to set the cruise control to 75mph and waft along the motorway in comfort and serenity. Getting to my destination 10 minutes quicker no longer seems all that important, I now prefer to do my speeding on the race track or drag strip |

i disagree british driving standards arnet bad atall they are really good. what is wrong is british people! we are arrogant, rude, we believe we own the road we are driving on, the lane we are holding, and anyone going faster than us regardless of speed is an absolute lunatic.

I used to really get agitated but I really try and ease off and not get involved as its not worth the stress. Oh and drivers abroad aren't perfect by any means but they have a better understanding of how to use motorways for sure.

That's true they have become very common which I don't like but it works in my head getting one of the rare ones.
