Hair dye tips for beginners

I have jet black hair and have a lot of grays coming up. I have never dyed my hair, so any tips or pointers for first timers? Any brands I should look out for? Any do's or don'ts?

I have helped a guy dye his hair. It makes a huge difference and looks better. You don't have to use a brand marketed for men. Something like "Nice n Easy" for women works the same and I think is cheaper but I'm not sure. Also leave a bit of grey so it looks natural.
(And for the record, I don't dye my hair, but won't hesitate to when it's time!)

Don't dye it, leave it and say you are going for the Clooney look.

I was just gonna buy Just for Men at Walmart and try one out to see how it looks. I'll look for the one you referenced. I'm assuming just follow the instructions on the box and I should be fine? Do I need to buy any special brushes or anything?

Oh I know the answer to this. Most dyes will come with a brush sometimes a comb as well. Use the comb to part your hair and apply directly to the root with said included brush.

Realistically, I don't have George Clooney's face features, so I don't think I can pull off that look.

And here I was a big fan of your videos and you go and give such poor advice
Look at Mark Cuban, his skin looks ashen because he dyes his hair.

Another question: Does it matter if I dye before or after a haircut?

Also, do I need to buy color-safe shampoos so as to not strip the color faster?

No, everything will be provided. Just be very careful not to get it on your forehead and scalp.

Googling and it says to apply a layer of lotion to forehead to act as a sealant?

You'll be surprised how many guys dye their hair and you don't know. A lot of guys go prematurely grey in their 20s and they hide it. Sure, I agree older guys shouldn't bother but not everyone ages like George Clooney. Sometimes people are in an industry where they need to look youthful.

It's usually better to do it after a haircut because shorter hair is more managable.

Yes. It won't strip the color per-say but it will dull it out.

Mark Cuban looks ashen because he spends most of his time looking like he's constipated while on Shark Tank.

Just make sure that you don't use the color that "Hair Club" uses! I used to bring my step father there (he was bald and vain and in a wheelchair), and EVERYBODY had that reddish-brown hair color. It didn't mater what ethnicity you were, it seemed that they all got that color. I googled HC's ad and sure enough "Justin" has that reddish brown which few men have naturally.

My feeling is I am just glad that I've got hair, I'll live with few grays, but if it will make you feel better, go for it!

A bit of grey says you are old enough to know what you are doing, but still young enough to do it.

I cut my own hair but I only know 1 style.

I can give you a pretty sweet fade if you want.
