BMW Car Insurance - Mods
Hi all
Been with Bmw car insurance for a few years and I told them about the m performance kit and MPPSK that has all been fitted by a main dealer and previous years they have said that they would insure the car as long as it’s been done by a main dealer. This year at renewal they have said they don’t insure modifications even if it’s been done by a main dealer.....anyone else experienced this recently? They even said they never insure mods to which I said last year we had the same discussion and I was advised it’s fine if done by a main dealer and are they now saying I’ve not been properly insured for the last year...?!?! Waiting on a manager to call me back |

Maybe they've recently changed underwriters or something.

Seems odd really, mods aren't that rare these days.
Maybe BMW is really moving away from them, but their own is bizarre. We have a mid free car house for the first time in ages! Insurance, so simple!

Had the same with them last year, asked if they'd cover ACS if dealer fitted they said no. Not quite the same as yours but they have a zero tolerance on mods now I think.
On the positive side, try some of the specialist mod insurers. I just swapped to Chris Knott from A-Plan (who were also excellent) on my 330d with map, lowered, spacers and some cosmetic changes for £390. BMW were quoting me £5-600 on a standard/non-modified car and price comparison sites slightly more. |

I have recently renewed insurance and have the following fitted by BMW. - Bodykit - MPPSK There policy wording has the following description for modifications and has not changed since last year. Modification – we consider a modification to be any alteration to your car from the manufacturers standard specification. This includes cosmetic changes to bodywork such as body kits, spoilers and alloy wheels or performance changes to the suspension, brakes, exhaust or engine management system. Optional extras fitted at the point of manufacture and retailer fitted accessories are not considered modifications |

Worth giving Admiral a shot. After trying A-Plan, who to their credit tried everything to get my premium down they worked out considerably cheaper for my slightly modded 335.

+2 for Admiral , all mods declared - MPPSK , splitter , diffuser , interior carbon parts , steering wheel.
Minimal charge to add them to the base policy. Easy to change / amend the policy online. No thoughts about hunting down a slightly cheaper quote every year as i am happy with them. K |

Just had a call back from BMW and spoke to a manager and they are no longer insuring mods particularly performance enhancements, so I won’t be renewing with them.
Worth checking if you have a policy with them and have mods that your car is properly insured as they have clearly changed their stance!! |

I'm with Admiral too. Mods declared. I even had a claim last year with them for £4k, and there was no quibbles with replacing the mods that were damaged. (They are all BMW parts though, so not sure about any aftermarket mods.)

Another for Admiral here
Didn’t think Bmw insured mods at all from when I initially bought my 3. I couldn’t even take advantage of the free 7 day insurance as I had ACS springs and body bits added prior to pick up.

I wonder if we are heading towards a future where no insurance companies will cover modded street cars.

There’s a lot of factors eg location NCD age car etc etc Funny things I found were (for me ) 335xd cheaper than a 330xd Premium reduced after I fitted side sills Read from Martin Lewis also it’s best to get a fresh quote 21 days before your current policy expires.
