It does- I tried all formats last night out of interest. If they can make it play movies they could easily have had it play CDs.

It's not a disaster for me, as I've got an old CD player in the loft that I can put there, and the space to have it. But lots of folk in small houses and apartments don't, and this could easily have helped reduce the devices required.

Mind you, anyone with a small home probably wont have a large CD collection like mine, and be more in to a streaming solution.

The PS4 recently got an update to give it dlna support, so you can stream your music from other devices if you wish : NAS, phone, usb stick even (how did you load your music collection onto your BMWs?), internet streaming (spotify, netflix, BBC iplayer) etc.

Besides, a trip to your local supermarket will net you a dedicated bluray/DVD/CD player for a fraction of the cost of one game.

What Hi-Fi did a review of the Xbox One S in their rewards issue and concluded that "As tempting as the budget price may be, this '4k' console doesn't quite deliver as a 4k UHD Blu-ray player".

While these devices may have optical drives, audio/dvd playback is not their main focus.

And to be fair. Digital media (stored on cloud, streamed from NAS) seems to be the way most people consume/save their media these days. My collection of DVDs gathers dust, and recently playing an old BBC documentary reminded me what old PAL resolution was like (even upscaled) compared to the now ubiquitous HD. Saying nothing about my Albums....

Totally get all that Dave, and as a moderate Audiophile I know that these devices are never that great for music reproduction or playing movies. Nevertheless, in a room we've set up as a "games room" it would have been fine for background music occasionally.

The high end set up is in the main lounge, as are all the CDs, so by no means an actual major issue for me. As mentioned I still have a very good, if very old Marantz CD player in the loft. In fact it's now basically going to have my very first hi-fi separates system in there, all given to me as a 21st/graduation present 20 years ago from the folks.. god I'm getting old!

This conversation must be like the one people had 20 years ago about people wanting to play records still...

very off topic! It made 360bhp and 700NM when dyno tested independently. Which was perfect as it was a custom map and I'd asked for it to put out 700NM max, to keep it consistent with the gearbox rating.

They can make it do more than that if you really want it to.

Yeah I'd doubt that. If there is one criticism of DMS it's that they get wrapped up in matching the headline figures of other tuners, when I really don't think they need to. However, in this market place it's easier to sell or market your company this way I guess.

Even if it is possible, it has to come at some loss of component longevity, which was a no-no for me given my mileage, usage and planned length of ownership.

I have the Thrustmaster T300RS with the Ferrari F1 add on race wheel and the Playseat Challenge fold up Alcantara seat. Bril combo!

PS Project CARS has The Ring too
Holy thread resurrection!!!

I've had the PS4S for a year and played with it about 3 times, despite having bought Project Cars back then and never actually tried it. Anyway, my little nephew has been down for the holidays and he wanted to play some games, and after getting fed up with getting my ass whipped at FIFA I decided we should try a racing game so put on Project cars!

You're right, very difficult with a joypad, but eventually got the hang a little, but very impressed with the game so just ordered a Thrustmaster T300 and this chair you suggested... better late than never and I need something to do till winter passes.

Snap. Just got myself the T300 RS GT edition. BT were the best price. This set comes with the much better pedals. My old T300RS broke down out of warranty a few months ago. I took it apart and the steering shaft bearing mechanism had completely failed. I will post some pictures tomorrow if I get a chance. I would have liked to replace with Fanatec steering wheel and pedals but would have needed a new wheelstand pro and they are a bit pricey.

Re Failed Thurstmaster T300 RS.

Just out of warranty also. These do have a terrible failure rate looking at forums and reviews. Good though while they last.

I did send an email to Thrustmaster technical department with the photos. I believe this failure occurred during some calibration processes where the unit was aggressively turning the wheel repeatedly on the end stops and therefore self destructing the mechanism inside.

How are you finding the VR kit? I've never tried one. Does it not make you feel dizzy or anything like that after extended use?

My son playing on my new ps4 race sim set up.

Things have certainly moved on since the days I played Pitstop on the commodore 64 when I was his age.

I got the HTC Vive a month or so back and have it hooked up to my i7-7700 gaming puter. I have Project Cars 2 as well as a playseat with a Thrustmaster T300 and F1 wheel.

All I can say is unbe-fecking-leivable! The VR experience is something to behold. It takes immersion to a new level. Despite the lower resolution of the current VR headsets, the compelling involvement of the environment, the detail of the visuals and the 'almost reality' makes up for it. 20 laps VR versus normal screen and you come out of it exhausted. The peripheral vision, head movement and more realistic driving style involves you so much more. As Smee says, it can tend to make you feel a tad queezy so you have to limit yourself to time on the rig.

I've got a 60 inch 4k TV but wouldnt bother driving on that any more. The headtracking on the HTC is phenomenal with zero lag or latency so it ensures it remains compelling all the time.

When I first got it, I jumped in to the 1967 Lotus Type 49 single seater and just sat there in the pits looking at all the gorgeous detail. Every little screw and rivet is there and the ability to just look around the cockpit and body kept me entertained for ages.

I highly recommend having a go on either the HTC Vive or the Occulus. A couple of Chinese headsets are coming on the market with 4k and even 8k so the lower rez issue of the current lot is improving already (although as I said, you forget the lack of resolution very quickly).

PS I stuck my 72 year old mum on IL-2 Sturmovik flight sim in an ME109 over Stalingrad and she practically crapped herself!

Smee , have you done any comparison lap times with and without VR? I'm pretty sure you could be so much quicker on VR. Easier to spot apexes and following the ideal line. I'll have a crack soon and let you know if you haven't.

Thanks for the posts about the Playseat Challenge, I’ve just ordered one to go with the new race wheel!

Now just need an Xbox VR set to come to market so I can play Forza on it!
