Slow drivers door lock
Anybody experience an issue with the drivers door lock casually opening?
My other 3 doors the lock shoots up instantly, the drivers door on the other hand looks a lot slower and looks like it will be getting stuck in the near future Is this a lubrication issue, or a weak motor issue? I have a video here, it a bit faster in the video than normal because its about 90 degrees out now and not first thing in the morning, but still much slower than my other 3 doors |

BMW seems to have consistent problems with door lock actuators. The motor/solenoid that makes the locks open and close can fail. It isn't a terrible DIY job if you are handy. You can ignore it until it stops working.

Mine pops up fast but locks down slow lol. I'll deal with it when it breaks, I do wonder if WD-40 will help...
If you find any youtube videos of this DIY or the lube, please post here. Thanks. Last edited by Zanity; 04-12-2019 at 04:25 PM.. |

That's what mine did before the actuator went completely bad.

Unfortunately warranty ended a month ago. Already had $2000 in repairs not including this. Rip

I had to get it to fail and then drive down to the bmw dealer and get a SA out to check it out. Driver's lock more? All of mine unlock when I use comfort opening, and all the doors unlock when I shut the ignition off. Weird. |

Battery is fine. Like I said all other 3 doors shoot up quickly. Never got a battery warning either and it's at 12.8v

Isn’t it strange that the actuators on these cars fail, I’ve both the front ones replaced on my car yet on my previous cars I’ve never ever had one fail? My last dad an accord 2003 all the door locks worked fine until I traded it in for my 3?

Not really a surprise: Welcome to the world of cost/quality reduction.
When I closed the doors on my E90, they had a nice rigid "thump". My F30 has a tinny sound/feel. |

Clearly this issue didn't just start this month. The locks have been going up and down slowly for a while, right? And now they have gotten worse. And then you read on line that this is a common problem. And, of course, if you had known a month, or 2 months, or 6 months ago, that the lock going up and down slowly was a sign that a more significant failure was coming, of course you would have brought it in. And, you'd be happy to talk to the service manager about it, if that would help. And BTW, why hasn't BMW issued a TSB for this? It seems like it's pretty common? You guys in the service dept must see this a lot? Right? |

The entire differential was caked with oil and dripping and told them I HIGHLY doubt this just started. She spew some bs and said "our technicians do a world standard inspection every time you came in blah blah blah" Then continued to tell me I can pay $1200 for it. During warranty they were excellent though but now that I'm out I'm treated second class.

Same here. Got a 10 year old civic. Needed nothing in its life repaired. All window motors functioning. All power locks functioning. Simple and effective.
