First BMW!!! :)
Hi guys,
I've been working since 14 and I've saved up enough to be able to afford a car for myself, and I wanted something nice so I got myself my first BMW I got a 2017 340i Xdrive with 25,000km/15,300 miles that just came off of a lease from one owner, with no accidents. The car has the m sport package and it's in estoril blue And I absolutely love the car so far. I've driven my best friends 2017 C43, but the 340i is just more fun. Or maybe I'm just biased now. But anyways, I was wondering, how can I take the best care of my new car? What are things I need to look out for? Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you, New bmw owner |

Congratulations and welcome!
The first few suggestions: - Examine the car's maintenance history as soon as possible - Brake fluid should be changed if it hasn't been changed yet - Invest in a good code reader; scan for stored fault codes - Search for threads where readers discuss maintenance items at 20K miles and beyond Did the vehicle come with snow tires? Enjoy the car! |

Congratulations! A lot of us here are new 2017 owners with recent ex-leases, myself included.
At that mileage, there's not much to worry about yet, just keep regular with the oil changes. BMW recommends 10k mile (15k km) oil change intervals using their Pentosin LL oil, but if you do your own maintenance, you can use off the shelf Euro-spec oil and filter (Mann or Mahle seem to be preferred) with a somewhat shorter change interval. A good BMW compatible scanner is a must (as mentioned above). For cosmetic care, just search around the forums and try some things out to see what you like best. Welcome aboard!

The car has all season tires. Currently we're in flash a snow storm so I'm going to park it until it blows over |

All season tires are a compromise at best for winter driving. Highly recommend getting a dedicated winter wheels / tires set.
From time to time, forum members sell BMW 18" 400M Style wheels which are an excellent choice for winter wheels. This is a popular code reader (US link): https://www.amazon.com/FOXWELL-Autom.../dp/B019QCG5RE |

Congrats and hello from Toronto. Sorry to hear about the snow.
Couple things worth doing since it’s parked: 1. Check the coolant expansion tanks in order to verify levels and also whether the caps should be replaced. Search for @auburnf30x recent post with images for additional details. If required only top up with BMW coolant. 2. Check the radiator and intercooler to see if the rock guards have been installed. Search recent thread but definitely recommend picking those up at the dealer and having them installed. Punch in your VIN at realoem.com to obtain the part number from the drawing - you’ll need two of them. 3. Search Google for well-reviewed and recommended independent BMW mechanics within reasonable driving distance. Always nice to introduce yourself and perhaps even get an offer to quickly look over everything at no charge. 4. Given our climate don’t forget the dealer will want to see the vehicle at least once every 2 years to maintain the 12 year factory rust warranty. You can obtain details online. 5. Don’t use Rain-X branded washer fluid regardless if winter or summer formulation. 6. Set the tire pressures to your desired range. I’d go with 40lb all around if you’re on runflats. 7. Post pics! |

Like someone else said, nothing to worry about except oil changes at 10k or less. Picked up my first BMW at 58k miles and with 110k on the clock, paid exactly ZERO in repairs! Awesome car. Never worked on a car before this one and have done a lot and fairly easy. Parts are cheap.
Heres my schedule that I follow at least worth a read. https://www.dslreports.com/r0/downlo...e%20v03.13.pdf

Congratulation on the purchase.
At this mileage, the car is brand new, keep up with the maintenance and you will be fine.

BMW is recommending MUCH longer service intervals for cars in Europe than they do in the USA. The U.S. customer base would not accept such long intervals.
