Rear subframe brace - 340xi

Installed rear subframe brace. What a difference it makes! The rear end is much tighter! Took it out on back roads after, much improved!

I do plan on replacing the subframe bushings this winter. Next will be the front subframe brace and control arms.

I can thoroughly recommend Whiteline rear subframe bushes - I had them installed a couple of thousand miles ago and they've made a big difference to the control of the rear of the car on my F31 which has a rear subframe brace as OEM spec.

There's a little bit more NVH but I'd put in the "negligible" category.

Thank you!

Weird how the F31 came with brace but not the F30.

it is, I have one waiting to be installed on my 340, looks like they're out of stock of the brace right now.

there's also an OEM alternative, you can read it in this thread: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1080995&page=4

I'm kinda confused, what does the rolls performance one add? Just the middle brace and the two V side braces? And you could piece together an OEM one too?

basically the middle braces is thickened versus oem (F80 OEM middle brace is thicker than F30), then the two connecting arms that connect middle brace to rear sub frame, that same type of bracing exists on F33 convertibles. Rolls basically made a thick forged aluminum version of what people have been piecing together using OEM parts from F80/F33's. That's also the upside of the Rolls performance one, its not pressed steel like the OEM pieces are.

Ah. So is it worth it, and how long does it take to install? The rolls one. I have a 2016 RWD 340, and I want to stiffen up the ride for backroads. Already have a strut brace over the motor, and springs installed. Just wanting to add more stiffness being I may take it to the track.

can't give you those details, I'm doing the install once the weather is slightly better in March. I personally spoke to Runner340 in DMs about this bar, and he had very good things to say about it.

I didn't do anything this winter, didn't get my shop insulated yet, I hate the cold lol.

Lower control arms are a must. Huge for handling. I just bought more parts, I'll be buying more soon. Need to get installing these soon!

For sure. emailed ross racing, still debating whether i pick up the mid chassis brace. He said it's an easy install.

Hi I bought these and plan on installing them myself, do you know the torque spec for these by any chance?

Running the F80 tunnel brace on my F30. Just wanted to comment that it is definitely not pressed steel like indicated above. Its thick aluminum and a cheap pickup from the local junk yard. Definitely stiffer than the F30 brace, which is indeed stamped steel.

Incorrect/ misleading statement:

"Rolls basically made a thick forged aluminum version of what people have been piecing together using OEM parts from F80/F33's. That's also the upside of the Rolls performance one, its not pressed steel like the OEM pieces are."

sorry i didn't mean to be misleading in my statement, I meant rolls version is better than the OEM F30 stamped steel version. I didn't think it was better than the F80/F33 piece combo, if you look in this thread I linked the F80/F33 thread and said it's an alternative to the Rolls one.

Did you use new bolts?

How did your mechanic know the torque settings since the brace isn't oe. For that model? I'm doing something similar and am concerned the shop will not torque enough or too much. Given its keeping the subframe together, it's quite crucial to get right.

It came with bolts, I tighten it down enough. No issues. I put the car in the air the other day and checked it, no issues.
