1D2008 Error Code - Thermostat?

Hey,

I have a check engine light in my 435i xdrive gran coupe, oil temp has not gotten up to 160 operating temp with my usual 20 minute highway drives and am getting no warm air out of the HVAC system. I scanned for codes and got:

1. 1D2008 - Map Thermostat: Jammed Open
2. Shadow code 10AA30 - Coolant temperature sensor, Multiple fault, electrical and signal

The car is bone stock and has 56k miles on it. I am assuming the thermostat needs to be replaced. I'm not highly mechanically inclined but have tackled some decent sized jobs in the past on my e92. I haven't been able to find any good DIYs for N55.

Has anyone else had the same issue and done DIY? I'm seeing lots of info for N20 and N26, but nothing for N55.

Thanks in advance!

This is the N54 but it's a similar process.

Thanks f32fleet! I’ve been trying to find a proper DIY specifically for the F chassis with no luck but I think I may just wing it.

On the N20 the t-stat is warrantied to 100k miles. Maybe check to see if it’s the same on the N55. If it’s the same t-stat, it may well be.

The thermostat is a relatively straight forward fix.
Buy a new one for 75 US from ECS tuning and a bottle of coolant and make sure you have a T30 Torque screwdriver

Just add my experienced about this Code 1D2008. Before replacing the thermostats, and you have this code 109001 - Coolant Temperature Sensor Electrical Short Circuit to B+. Replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor first.
