Rear right Brake and indictator bulb fault

I've got a random intermittent issue with my rear right brake and indicator bulbs failing. Seems to be happening with increasing regularity now. I assume changing the bulbs won't do a thing as I feel it's something slightly more sinister...

Is this a known, common issue?

I've read posts in the past regarding the connector on the rear lights burning out/melting. I guess this could cause a high resistance that could trip a bulb warning.

Faulty earth on the cluster. Wire an extra earth link to the cluster, job jobbed.

So I've taken the cluster out and had a proper look. Looks like the prong has melted into the connector (not sure if pics show it)…. How do I fix this?!

My grandfather had the same thing.

A garage wanted to replace the entire unit, but a local specialist advised it just needed a module change or something inside the headlamp unit :-)

Well randomly, I cleaned it up and put it back together, and now it's working perfectly fine... but how?! Very bizarre! I expect it's only a matter of time though
