Think my EGR needs replacing. Got an engine warning light today so used Bimmerlink and got error code 290900 - air system, air to EGR mass flow plausibility: measured air mass in comparison to calculated air mass too high.
Just wondering if anyone has had the same? Is it the EGR or just a hose has a hole in it? I had to top up the coolant a week ago, not very much but low enough to throw a warning. |

Rang BMW and they tell me there’s a second recall on the car, not sure when they planned to tell me that? Its been in before for EGR and was told all was good. Booked in for Tuesday for what’s likely to be a replacement EGR.
I’m not going to be difficult with them, unless they want me to pay for parts anyway, as I've had the car close to 5 years old and 102k miles so well outside warranty. |

Just to update, car went into BMW today and they’ve changed the EGR cooler, so all it good with the car.
While it’s not great that the part needed changing I do think it’s good BMW have done it FOC on a car that’s well out of warranty and they were quick from when I phoned them on Saturday to having the work done. |

Mine had the egr cooler replaced last year (jan19) all ok for 3-4 months then I started getting drive train errors being displayed. the extreme was while the wife was with me up in Lancaster and the warning came up 3 times in one day over a 300 mile trip .
car was duly booked into stealer for diagnostics , result was the EGR valve apparently sticking !!! . I did get rather animated with them as It was quite obvious that the egr was not part of the recall just the cooler , the EGR was not even cleaned !! . the upshot was it actually only cost ,£290 .all in so not the end of the world . |

The egr valve was replaced !! .
I did suspect that it would be an egr related issue . so in preparation I security marked the egr valve and cooler with a simple 2 colour felt tip pen mark . low and behold it is the very same part in a box under my workbench . I have a deep mistrust of garages that state " oh we have replaced this and had to change that " . so it's a case of can I have my old bits back please !! |

Headsup guys!
Even if your 35d is newer than those that BMW are taking care of be sure to check it regularly! I have a September 2016-built 35d that BMW didn't want to take the EGR- problems seriously on. I got the already discussed codes thrown and upon further inspection my EGR-system had leaked and burnt holes in my intakemanifold. I was lucky my car had not burnt up already, 4 melted holes were found! After talking to BMW about these things they took my car at goodwill and changed everything for me. Edit : BMW Germany were obviously very interested in investigating the issues so the EGR, cooler and intake manifold were sent to Germany. |

What were the symptoms? Mines a Sept 16 build and last year the car was at the Stealers for It’s 1st MOT and they kept it in overnight due to low coolant and suspected radiator leak. New radiator changed on the paperwork but I thought at the time it didn’t look new through the grille...

I had BMW look at it and they couldn't solve it, they basically suggested a new inlet manifold (£1000 all in - lol). I said i'd check a few other things first. I had it in with a BMW specialist (BMS in Dover 👌 this morning for some other bits and asked them to check the vacuum lines for the egr valve as I was still getting the 29EB00 code and.... turns out the top vacuum line (black one) had a hole in it caused by the acoustic cover right at the back of the engine. It had worn a significant hole in it. No codes now and it's obviously been broken for a while hence the previous issue of a coked up inlet manifold. I know I shouldn't be this excited about a fixed car but i am a very very happy man today |

got the EGR recall letter through for the first time today... one of the symptoms of it having failed is the low engine coolant levels warning coming up, which happened to me at the weekend. Only a 1000 mile round trip planned for the car over the next few days :/

Received my letter a few days ago. Booked in for this Thursday. No symptoms to report, but glad I got the letter as mine done only 8k miles on a 15 plate.

Yep, letter received yesterday for my 2016 435d - I've asked and asked over the last 18 months if this needed booking in for EGR to be told "no" every time.
Now it needs replacing they're trying to charge me for a courtesy car to cover associated COVID-19 cleaning costs 🤦🏻*♂️ |

We've just had it done on the X3. Thanks to Bimmerpost I checked on the recall site and when I rang the dealer and said it was showing, they just confirmed it and booked it straight in. Also had the 4 month overdue MOT done :-) Wonder how many will forget.

No recall letter for me yet, but mine is showing as "Outstanding recall found" on the DVLA web site so I'm getting it booked in.
I had a 330D prior to my 335D and in June 2017 it did suffer a very badly melted inlet manifold (the smoke was horrendous). I had to pay for the repairs myself as BMW, at the time, had not issued their initial recall for the EGR cooler issue. I did manage to claim it all back in the end because I had the work carried out at BMW and kept the relevent paperwork etc (cost me £1300 quid) |

I have a MY 2016 435d Coupe which is 4 years old next month. They said I couldn’t wait with the car as it is an all day job and are charging me for a courtesy car. Dickie
