Heading to Chester OPC Friday for some research.

That's in the afternoon. Oakmere in the morning.

Lotus? Morgan? Mazda? Toyota? With your eclectic history of cars, it could be just about any of them! But I am guessing the last one...

Did you buy it new or used? Invitation is with a new car purchase but does seem that often the invite gets lost. May be because your dealer have to pay for it!

It was used but only had 1500 miles on the clock, so maybe that is why.

I did something like 17k miles in a GT3 over 18 months or so... Was considered a world record at the time...

I think, at that time, most GT3's were racking up miles at about 3k/year...

Both the Boxster and Cayman that I had were 12k/year cars, on average...

Is it still difficult to get a GT4 slot..? Like your having to go on a letter of intent list then keep your fingers crossed you get an allocation..?

A slot is probably difficult but I've noticed a big change this time around that the 4.0 cars might have adjusted it a little.

So the used market is spot on or just under RRP with mileages from 400-2000 being the marker.

Not really. I've never bought a new Porsche, or even a used one from an OPC, but last month I was told I could order a GT4 still for 2021 delivery, albeit it would be Q3/4 delivery. Spyder slots for 2021 were all gone however. This was Porsche Reading, which is also the Porsche UK Head office, so I'd think a good guide as to what is happening generally.

I will run my Exige on track this year though, see how I get on with it, and my M4 deal runs till mid 2022, so I am more likely to order at this time next year for a summer 2022 delivery, if I go down this route.

As I understand GT4 this time aren’t a limited run in the way they were previously. I know 2 people who have got allocation without any great history with the local dealer so it seems if you want one you will get one and the wait won’t be silly long.

Yes there certainly seems to be more slots this time round. I guess the GTS offering the same engine will take some of the pressure off, and given the 4.0 engine has only just been developed, and this far only being used in these cars, it's probably safe to say they will be in production for quite a few years, whereas the 981 GT4 was less than two years.

Will be interesting to see what that does for residuals down the line though. 981 GT4 are rock solid above 60k minimum and have been there for a few years now, whereas 991 GT3, which were also built in greater numbers have slipped down to high 80s/low 90s, and not much higher than 997 GT3s.

Certainly no issue ordering a GT4 back in Sept/Oct, i even got the impression there might be a little bit of 'Dizzy' in the offing.

I think it is the sensible choice over the 4.0 GTS if you can stretch the budget..... I have no doubt the GTS is a great car though.

Would agree, the 4.0 GTS seems a bit like nearly there but not quite.

Reminds me of a friend who bought a Leon FR a few years back. He was really proud of it until someone said it was a nice car but you might as well write Couldn’t afford a Golf across the back window lol.

I heard the same about people with the Macan, couldn't afford a Cayenne.

Pros and cons for the GT4 and the 4.0. A course of off putting things for a GT4 are the Cup2 tyres and the front lip...maybe the natty door pulls too. The GT3 front suspension and its better looks of course are another matter.

I think unless you're likely to take it on track the GTS is a better car for most people. Easier to live with day to day, and the parts that are better on the GT4 will only really make the difference when you're really pushing it.
