It's probably common to all BMW's - our 328i has that as well

I don't think I have used a car in the past 15 years that didn't incorporate some method of managing the gas cap.

Apple audio files

I just realized that if you put Apple audio files m4a/m4b ( I am a great audiobook fan ) it works with the sound perfectly and I was surprised to see that on the audiobooks it keeps the point where you last stopped even if remove the USB stick as it is on Apple devices.

Works every time but I have size 14 shoes . Actually it failed once...then I realized the key wasn't in my pocket. I use this feature all the time.

My point was that the cluster's sensor is smart. It recognizes the difference between daytime and nighttime when activating the headlights, and the HUD color reflects that. Whenever my headlights come on during the daytime due to reduced light or whatever, the HUD info remains white. When my headlights are activated at night (..or in extremely dimly lit situations like freeway tunnels), the HUD info is red. That's all that I was saying.
Here's my point:

The ambient light sensor for the headlights and the instrument cluster are different. As you've stated, there are situations where the ambient light conditions cause your headlamps to turn on, but, the instrument cluster remains white.

My comment was to illustrate a scenario where the headlight ambient sensor detects insufficient natural light (at night) and turns the headlights on, while the instrument cluster would detect sufficient ambient light (by virtue of shining a flashlight directly at it) and thereby cause the TFT display part of the instrument cluster to remain white.

Clear as mud?

I get all of that. I just didn't get why you were explaining that to me. Ah well! Water under the bridge.

Yep, we're saying the same thing. I was simply stating that a flashlight can be used to manually trigger the IC sensor independent of the headlight sensor, to toggle between Red and White on the TFT display and the HUD display

The cool takeaway is the little things that BMW does to go the extra mile, like the cluster light sensor being independent of the headlight sensor.

When you place the car in reverse the door handle LED lights turn on lighting up the ground.

Not a performance item but pretty cool nonetheless. I finally got around to snooping under the hood and noted the radiator is a "ozone reduction" type of unit. I'm sure somebody will want to change their radiator because of that feature but for me, I think it's a great idea.

That DNA is there for the overhead virtual camera view at night ...

Found another small neat feature. Applies to MY14 vehicles only with NBT and Idrive touch:

The top surface of the I-Drive touchpad can be used to increase or decrease any "bar" level. For eg. when you select the audio tone controls and select "Treble", you can increase or decrease the treble level by simply sliding your finger left or right on the touchpad to increase or decrease the level....you dont have to turn the i-drive knob itself.

A small item but greatly appreciated. The black mask around the rear view mirror is applied internal to the windshield. This leaves the inner surface smooth so you can attach suction cups for a radar detector or dashcam. This is the first car I've had that has this feature, and it gives me better options for the Valentine 1 mount. Dashcam install is pending in this area as well.

It should work as long as you're:
1) in the middle of the rear
2) doing a straight in-out motion and not a left-right sweeping motion

I have sub-standard size-10 shoes and works every time. Love this feature.

May have already been mentioned, but you can also use it certain screens and draw letters to find/spell out what you need i.e. when searching A-Z artists on your iPod, draw an "R" and it takes you directly to the artists that begin with "R." Works with the phone book as well.

If you have rear view camera/PDC, then you can go to the left side on iDrive and change settings to see Dynamic guidelines and other settings.

i knew about the compartment but not that it had a way to hold it up! Now thats cool! I noticed last week when I had a loaner from the dealer that the GT models stay up themselves as they have a gas shock to do so.
