Will the G20 age the F30 similar to the E9X?

What do you guys think? Obviously before I picked up my first BMW, I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between an E9X and an F3x, but now with the G20 out I'm worried my f30 will look dated rather quickly.

Driving by E9xs I immediately think it's some high school kid in their first car. Do you guys think the F30 will follow that trend?

I was just wondering this too, curious what people's opinions are.

IMO not for a few more years at least. I think the F30 especially with M-sport will age gracefully.

I particularly think the F32/36 will age well with its wider lower front end and headlight style.

Yes of course to some extent, it's only natural as cars age. The question is whether it will carry the same prestige as certain enthusiast platforms such as the E39 and E46. Certain older BMWs are practically revered when they are kept in good shape over the years because of the impact they had when they were new but I think we're a little ways away from knowing the staying power of the F3x.

The F30 is a beautifully designed car. Great proportions and detailing. I saw an G20 yesterday and it’s attractive but in a grown up luxury way. The E90 was a bit bland, especially the pre-LCI.

The only aspect that worries me is the larger grill design. I'm not huge on it, but it does appears to be an industry trend.

I agree with you on the grown up luxury topic as I've yet to see an moded m340is in person. There's a few pictures in the G20 forums, but a common question I see is asking why so few have done anything to their cars.

It's tiny compared to a lexus!

Yeah, probably over years like said above.

Yup, it's going to become just another old sub-$5000 BMW, enjoy it while it's not.

I think the E46 and F30 look better than the E90 and G20. So I believe the F30 will do better than the E90 did. I'm biased though, since I never really like the E90.

That said, the G20 definitely looks more modern than the F30. And I never liked how the F32 or the M bumpers looked. I don't think the F30 will look as dated as the E90 does, but the G20 will definitely make it look old in a few years.

I think there is a difference between aging and looking out of date. Some car designs are noticeably older, but still look good while others who follow trendy design concepts look out of date very quickly.

I think the F3X will age pretty gracefully but nothing like the E46 which I still think looks good today. Something about the E90 and many of the other BMW's from that era never really apealed to me, and they really look out of date now.

The F3X's will look older once the G2X's start to become more widespread on the market simply because they are not the current model. However, if you like the way the car looks, it doesn't really matter.

Relieving hearing others think the F30 will age gracefully. I agree with others that the E46 did age quite well. A neighbor has one that he's maintained well and it's still a sharp looking ride.

Like the E46 before it, and the E36 before that, I think the F30 design (M Sport) is bold enough to still look good years from now.

I'll admit though, I might be slightly biased because I've personally owned those 3 models

I think the F30 will age well, it's got some sharp character lines. The G20 looks like a melted stick of butter.

Nothing will age as well as the E38, though.

I think F30 will age more than F32 or F36. I recently parked beside a G20 and compared it to my F32, I think they just look different. Cars now a days have reached the climax where exterior design are just different, rather than a look improvement. Interior is a whole different story, F3x interior has nothing on G20.

The E90 hasnít aged that well to me. Wanted to get a 335i ages ago but just couldnít get on with the looks of the E90 even in LCi form, pre LCI and the rear lights are just hideous.

The F30 is pretty neutral looks wise and at first glance does look similar to the G20 so for me at least another 3-5 years before it might start to look dated.

I hope not because I just bought one!

I think the F30 Series in M sport trim looks masculine and athletic, and is a better looking car than the G20. The grills and the headlights look awful

If I were to upgrade it wouldn't be to a G20. I'd be looking at mercs offerings

What do you mean "obviously"? You could not see that the E9X and F3X were totally different?

Although, personally, I don't think E9X's look dated, even now. Maybe the instrument panel or the iDrive, but not the exterior. Especially higher-trimmed versions.
