Drivetrain Malfunction
Hey guys, I got a drivetrain malfunction today while driving down the highway in comfort mode around 70 mph. First I noticed spuddering then maybe 30 seconds later I got the message.
Pulled over turned down the car and then turned back on and the message was gone. Proceeded with the rest of my drive and everything seemed fine, but the message scared me. I've seen a few other threads regarding this but none with an outcome. Anyone know what this might be? 31,000 miles '15 328i. |

You’ve answered your own question!
These cars, for whatever reason, from time to time throw codes or malfunction notifications for no, or insignificant, reason. Generally, as happened to you and me a long time ago, it clears itself after restarting the vehicle. If it continues to come back it is in issue, if it doesn’t I wouldn’t worry too much about it. |

Had a similar experience with the one time drivetrain malfunction warning. Car seemed to drive ok, message went away after I turned off the ignition and re-started. It did throw a code, so at my next service the technician checked and said there was a malfunction with the A/C compressor exceeding the high pressure. He said it could be the sensor not shutting off the compressor. A month or two later, I began to notice a low moaning sound when starting off in 1st/2nd gear but disappearing as the car accelerated. Brought it in to the dealer and when the tech did a test drive with me, he said it might be the A/C compressor. He replaced the compressor and that took care of the low moaning sound.
